Description
Our journey began with the end of founder and owner Andy Smith's former career in fine dining. An avid home-brewer, Andy sought to make fresh exciting beer that was difficult to find here in the UK. A move from his home town of Leeds to London soon presented the opportunity to work with Andy Moffat at Redemption Brewing in Tottenham. Here he studied and learned to ply his trade as a professional brewer whilst making many friends and contacts in the fast growing UK beer scene. In 2012, one of these friends, Evin O'Riordain of The Kernel Brewery kindly offered to pass on their original brew kit as the Kernel embarked upon expansion. A short time later, some premises secured just down the railway line, and Kernel and Partizan were established as neighbors; so the brewery was born.

The brewery relocated late 2017 from Almond Road to its current location.

Today

Ten years later and much like other small breweries across the UK Partizan has faced tough trading conditions; namely the lasting effects of the pandemic, soaring inflation and increasing rent. To both protect Partizan and avoid chasing inflation and increasing prices, the brewery moved its production out of London in 2023 to a farm in Market Harborough in rural Leicestershire, locating it at long-time friends, Langton Brewery.

We are now expanding the brewery here, on the farm. By Spring 2024 we will have a new fermenter hall and a greater capacity than we ever had in London which will allow us to brew exciting new beers and to collaborate with old friends and new. Despite the draw of the countryside our roots are still in London and we will continue to meet the demands of our customers in the city that we still call home.

Bottle at home (didn’t even realise this was a new one until it was almost done!). It pours golden with a tiny white head and small suspended particles. The nose is yoghurt, milk, pithy citrus, grapefruit, apricot, earth and barnyard. The taste is earth, zesty orange, lemon rind, pithy, grapefruit, pine, light toast and hay with a very dry, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate+ carbonation. Not quite up to the regular Partizan standard and it ain’t a looker either. Saying that it’s still a decent APA!

Bottle at Partizan. It pours pale yellow with a small white head. The nose is earth, hay, yeasty bread, dough, light spice, lemongrass, straw and light sweetness. The taste is straw, lemon, orange, pithy lime, grain, dough and soap with a dry finish. Light-medium body and moderate carbonation. Tastes doesn’t quite live up to the aroma, but it is rather refreshing. A touch more lemongrass perhaps? A great summer beer nonetheless.

Bottle at home in London - many thanks to Paul for sourcing this from the brewery. Pours perfectly clear, lightly effervescent with a frothy, pure white head. The nose carries dry dough, some biscuity pale malts, lemony citrus. Light sweet flavor with the typical Partizan Grisette balance, mild straw, doughy pale malts, white bread, faint grassy bitterness, some lemon merengue. Light bodied with average to lively carbonation. Fairly sweet to finish with just a touch of dryness to even things out, with further white bread, angel food cake, light grass and straw bitterness and some further playful lemon merengue. An absolute delight.

Bottle at the brewery. Translucent golden orange big persistent fluffy white head. Aromas of lemon rind, spicy peppercorns and breast dough malt. Flavours of mineral, lemon, bread. The finish is bone dry. Very well attenuated. Some prickly spicy flavours in the finish. Very good indeed.
