2003 bottle sampled in 2005. Paid $7.75 for a 9.3 oz single. Pours orange amber with only a dusting of a white head, very pretty color. Aroma is sweet, not strong, and reminds me a bit of a cherry cordial, complete with the chocolate in hand. Flavor is... hmmm... definitely barleywine, but finishes with a bitter tangy alcohol flavor with some grassiness, metal, and cherrylike sweetness. It’s got some stickiness in it. Definitely enjoyable, but not worth the price.

Large creamy head of white over a clear, dark orange body. Light caramel aroma with pear, apple and honey in the background. Lightly sweet with a long finish, the texture is full bodied, soft and creamy. Not worth the extra $2 IMO, but still a very nice sipper.

Cask gravity at Notts BF 05. Hazy copper/brown beer. Strong aroma of US hops. Quite toffeeish with good hop finish. Citrus is grapefruit and a bit muddy.

Bottle. 2002 vintage. Amber coloured beer with a tan head. Aroma is a little smoked with some beef-stock as well. Sweetness in both taste and finish. Quite complex taste, with prunes and caramel in the background. Rating: 4-3-8-4-17-3.6. 050923
Bottle, 2004 vintage. An unclear, dark brown body is topped by a minimal sized off-white head. The aroma has lots of caramel and oxidation, some alcohol and a faint nutty note. Hints of hops. It’s quite sweet on the palate, warming, and with a little cocoa touch. Nuts, roasted malt notes, coffee hints and a nice bitterness in the flavor. Full body, quity oily on the palate, and warming. Lasting finish with cocoa, nuts and alcohol. Too sweet this one, even for my sweet tooth, but sure nice. 140322

Deep cherry red, small tanned head. Strong nose of rye, alcohol, chocolate, berries, dark malts. Full-bodied. Very liquerish, sticky sugary mouthfeel. Flavors of maple syrup, licorice, brandy, brown sugar. The beer to drink very slowly. I think needs some more years of aging to cut excessive sweetness from it.

Bottle 500ml. Darksih red ale, thin beige head. Good dark fruit and berry(strawberry?) aromas with caramel/toffee some roasted malt notes. Good in mouth some sweetness some roast malt coffee/caramel which carries on to end which is dry. OK, but would be better in winter than August

Cask at GBBF 2005 Dull inoffensive watery, some fruit could drink it all night and not notice 1.9/5 Re-rate Cask handpull at Willow Walk ’Sporks. Very dark ruby, thin beige head. Decent tasty dark mild, some roasted malt, bit toasty, some sting on the tongue at end. Aroma of dark syrup and fruit that is quite attractive. Rather a good mild, with this subtle sting finish.

Cask at Phoenix, Canterbury. Advertised as a pale ale, but I am not so sure. Amber in colour with some hops on nose, creamyish in mouth with a slightly tangy hop finish. Sounds like I had a better pint of this than Dan. Ok but unremarkable

Cask at County Hotel JDW Ashford. Mid gold colour. Not much aroma to speak of and to be honest not a lot of flavour. Perhaps it was because I was having it with mexican food, but whilst drinkable it was very bland indeed
