Description
Maplewood opened with the mission to push liquid boundaries in an unassuming building nestled in Chicago’s historic Logan Square neighborhood.

The first of its kind to establish brewing and distilling roots under a single roof, Maplewood has been producing finely crafted beer and spirits out of their 10BBL brewhouse and 250L Kothe hybrid still since 2014. Three years after moving into the production facility, Maplewood opened the Lounge, a neighborhood bar doubling as a cocktail parlor and brewery taproom. Beginning commercial distribution throughout Illinois shortly after settling into the Logan Square space, Maplewood has since expanded their distribution footprint into Missouri, SW Michigan, Northern Indiana, Wisconsin and Kansas. Maplewood’s patrons have come to expect expertly crafted beer in a wide range of styles.

Murky apricot yellow-brown body, dense medium off-white head. Tropical fruit/stone fruit, juicy and earthy, papaya, etc., creamy and moderately sweet but not tart. Modest bitterness. Very good, probably among the top 10% of the examples of the style I've sampled.

Can gifted to me by Eric at Old Chicago.
Canned December 30th 2019.

Pours a hazy straw yellow with over a finger of foam.

It smells hoppy in a tropical fruit way. Mostly pineapple but also grapefruit and some mango.

Taste matches. Pineapple, grapefruit, mango seems to be absent. Some dankness to it, no onions.

Smooth mouthfeel, smooth drinking.

It's nice and I betcha in a fresher state, it would impress me more.

16 oz. Aroma is cantaloupe, mango, Smarties, grain. Pours slightly hazy golden with a two finger bone-white head with great retention; leaves curtains of lace. Taste is candy sweet and lightly bitter. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Crisp, clean, refreshing, tasty.

16oz can brewed at Central State. In a world of wacky ass lactose beer, it is kind of nice and refreshing to see a classic Milk Stout. Roasty, rich, big chocolate, accentuated by the sweet vanilla sugary tones of the lactose. Even though I think contract brewing is kind of cheesy, Central State seems pretty competent. Really good.

Pour is a bright gold with a large white head. Aroma is a very spicy hop to start. Not much of a malt because the hops cover up everything. Flavor is more spice hops with a thin body. Finish is a little bitter and a little soapy. This was not a typical pilsner and a bit thin for the style.

Pour is a leathery clear tan with a large white head. Aroma is caramel malt with a high sugar and a bit of toffee. Flavor is a real nice dark bread with a wee bit of caramel and finishes with some leathery malt. Pretty good for a style that does not get many offerings.

16 oz can from Tavour. Pale yellow/golden, tight creamy white head. Gentle citrusy aroma, oranges and grapefruit. Taste is citrusy and juicy with a mellow bitterness that makes this easy to drink. Smooth and creamy
