Description
Maplewood opened with the mission to push liquid boundaries in an unassuming building nestled in Chicago’s historic Logan Square neighborhood.

The first of its kind to establish brewing and distilling roots under a single roof, Maplewood has been producing finely crafted beer and spirits out of their 10BBL brewhouse and 250L Kothe hybrid still since 2014. Three years after moving into the production facility, Maplewood opened the Lounge, a neighborhood bar doubling as a cocktail parlor and brewery taproom. Beginning commercial distribution throughout Illinois shortly after settling into the Logan Square space, Maplewood has since expanded their distribution footprint into Missouri, SW Michigan, Northern Indiana, Wisconsin and Kansas. Maplewood’s patrons have come to expect expertly crafted beer in a wide range of styles.

Brutally sweet. Big notes of mango, candied grapefruit, and peach cobbler, underlined by overwhelming, cloying lactose. Finishes with some pine but grows medicinal with the insane amount of sugar on the back end. The anti-Lunch. Woof.

Can, 0.473l, shared with Leo & Dasa. Aroma of mango, pineapple, citrus and biscuit. Pours hazy dark golden color with thin creamy white head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts juicy tropical fruity and citrusy, following is herbal, piney and grainy, mouthfeel is rather dry, while finish is pretty bitter. Medium body, slick texture and average carbonation in palate. Son of a gun…

Almost amber color under a steady layer of foam. Smell had a lot of that Belgian malt, just a thin note of ginger. Taste is a pretty full Belgian Strong: pretty hearty and malty. Slight spice of Belgian beer is matched to a subdued thread of ginger, not hot like a ginger ale.

Pale yellow and hazy with thin head. Aroma and flavour have toasted grains and caramelised pineapple. Refreshing but misses a little bitterness.
