Cardiff Mini-break Beer#7. The second of two cask from Scotland, driven through England to be drank in Wales in the capital's Head Of Steam. A very traditional styling with a subtle dark malt combined with a sweet pseudo-liquor flavour. Tasty in a slightly too easy texture.

Can from Asda Aberdeen Beach. It pours clear copper with a decent white head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, sappy, sticky, resinous, orange marmalade, grapefruit, toffee and some gummy candy. The taste is dry, bitter, sappy, oily, resinous, prickly pine, sweet toffee/caramel, grapefruit, orange, marmalade and muted alcohol presence with a bitter linger. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not a huge amount of depth, but I like the bitter - sweet character to it.

The aroma is sweet, sticky, fruity, orange marmalade, candy, bubblegum, pic n mix, grassy, slightly herbal, blackberry jam, battenburg cake, splash of Pina cola... Quite wild! The taste is firmly dry, bitter, earthy, sappy, resin, pine, touch of tannin, resin, green, weedy, peppery spice, bright fruits, zesty citrus, grapefruit, berry jam, blackberry and bubblegum also with a drying, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate. Super expressive and unique hope character. Brilliant out of the ordinary stuff.

Can. A bit thin on the palate, softly carbonated. Quite heavy on the vanilla. Roasted malts, cold coffee and a burnt hint. Sure not bad. 747312

Can picked up at Fierce Bar Abz. It pours darkest brown to black with a small brown head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, milk fudge, sweet, chewy, Cadbury's fudge, mars bar, chomp, gooey caramel, vanilla and Scottish tablet. The taste is smooth, bitter - sweet, dark roasted malt, earthy, charred, some umami, milk chocolate, caramel, chomp, fudge, dull alcohol presence and some coffee grounds with a dry, toasty finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not nearly as sweet as I had feared (which is very much a positive). Well judged.

Can from Aldi. It pours clear pale yellow with a fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh, fragrant, oak, savoury, salty, rich cracker, muted jasmine and pot pourri. The taste is Indeed extra dry, snappy, minerality, alkaseltzer, grassy, straw, floral, jasmine tea, dry oak, light tannin and some peppery spice with a drying finale. Average body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Interesting and quenching. Nice one. Think I prefer this to the previous cedar version actually.
