pitch black color with off white head. Lovely nose of oak vanilla dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel molasses and raisins. Super smooth with excellent vanilla, oak, charred oak, raisin, dark chocolate and caramel. Super smooth backbone. Very rounded. The finish isn’t a home home as a got a bit of ash and slightly harsh roastiness but overall great stuff

Half pint on tap at Local Taphouse, Sydney. Very black beer with thin white head. Nose of caramel, liquorice, cream. Good lacing. Quite sharp carbonation. Tastes like toffee with a dry cocoa finish. Warming alcohol. Really good stout, served too cold (of course).

Tap at the Great Northern Hotel, Melbourne. Poured a crystal clear straw colour with a frothy white head, clingy lace and a few bubbles. The aroma is grainy malt, yeast, floral citrus hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with dry malt, somewhat unpleasant floral hop bitter palate and a lingering floral bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Not so keen on this at all. I think the recipe deserves revisiting.

375ml can into schooner glass. Wonderful fruity nose, grapefruit, lemon, hint of caramel. Golden bronze beer with thin frothy white head. Light carbonation. Light body. Light fizzy taste, dry finish has notes of papery malt and lingering bitter lemon. Not bad, much more interesting than the usual Aussie ’mid-strengths’.
