Description
Sixpoint was founded in 2004 (we like to say it was born at the dawn of civilization, though that’s a story for another time…) in the rough and tumble neighborhood of Red Hook, BKLYN. It was essentially a cult brewery — draft-only, mysterious, cryptic…

In 2010 we released our canned creations, and have been tweaking, improving, and releasing new formulations ever since. Then in May of 2017, we took our biggest step forward to date, releasing all of our ales raw and unfiltered, and simultaneously incorporating new and incredible raw materials obtained over years of sourcing.

In November 2018, Sixpoint was acquired by Artisanal Brewing Ventures.

Cloudy dark amber colour. Big, fluffy, light caramel head. Woody, lightly citric aroma with some sort of crystal/munich malt. Toasty, earthy character with breadcrusty notes, spicy rye and a fairly bitter finish. At times surprisingly chewy. Distinctive if a little unpolished.

Fairly dark brown colour. Nutty aroma - lots of chestnuts and almonds. Pretty cool, that. Toasty, slightly malty character with a decent nuttiness factor. The beginnings of a decent brown ale here.

Slightly muddy dark brown colour. Smoky aroma with a light roast accent. Thick with malty notes - some oatmeal, bit of smoke, toffee. Lightish body, but clean and balanced. I like the way the smoke is strong, but still complementary rather than dominant.

Dark amber-brown colour. Big toffee, fig and peach aroma. Surprisingly lightish in flavour, given the size of the brew. There are hints of caramel, a light plasticy note.. Clean, flavourful but not as dynamic as the aroma promised me.

This is my favorite one out the four sixpoint products I’ve tried - cloudy and nearly black - frothy, capuccino-like head - aroma is nutty, with notes of plum, brown sugar - barely any smoke in the aroma or flavor, but that’s alright ’cause this sucker is tasty - robust, chewy chocolate and caramel malts - just a slight roastiness, but nothing I would call smokey - gimme some more!

Deep brown color with an almost "from the cask" looking head (nice and bubbly) - nutty, wheaty aroma - decent body, with a malt/hop ratio that is more like an amber than a brown, but I’m not going to complain about that - a well-constructed brown ale.

A pretty standard belgian golden ale - nothing is happening that is all that striking, but the brewers are showing that they can make a solid, true to style belgian, with a decent "flavor progression" - starts out lemony and spicy - gradually works in a really grainy, bready malt flavor - nice.

Cloudy dark red with a brownish tint, impressive frothy head - musty and spicy aroma that reminds me more of a weissenbock than a dubbel - sweet, but not cloying - hints of chocolate and dried fruit (prune, raisin) - finish thins out a bit, but this is solid - I think these guys make better products that Brooklyn does, and I look forward to watching this brewery grow.
