Cask at the brewpub. Pours rich brown with a frothy beige head: the nose holds nicely smoked dark malts, a bit of cocoa. Medium sweet flavor with moderate earthy bitterness, some burnt meat, more smoke, baking cocoa, dried fruits. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Finishes somewhat dry with notes of burnt grainy bread, burnt grass, dry smoke, chalky cocoa, earth. Pretty decent.

Cask at the brewpub. Almost clear dark amber beer, small pale tan head. Palate is airy and smooth with modest fine carbonation. Smooth and sweetish brown malts, light tang. Touch of dry malt cream. Mild but tangy dark chocolate and subtle dark fruits. Very mellow spices, cinnamon and cloves. Pretty easy drinking as the spices haven’t been overdone.
