Bottle at home (brought back by friend from Lake District). I’ve had this some time so I guess it was produced by Appleby themselves before they were taken over. Anyway, pours a dark reddish brown with a transient cream head. Aroma is a nice mix of hazelnuts and burnt bread. In the mouth there is a little bit of fruit before creamy milk chocolate takes over. The fruit comes back as raspberries in the finish. Nice and light – an interesting one.

Bottle from Beer Ambleside. Appearance - golden with a big fluffy head. Nose - lemon, light dishcloth, with oatmeal bread lurking at the back. Taste - creamy oatmeal again. A bit bland and lacking in fruit apart from that. Palate - creamy and light to medium bodied. Fairly dry, but slightly astringent finish. Overall - so so.

Bottle. Booth’s, Kendal. Well, this isn’t amber in colour as per the other rates. This is straw gold, with a faint haze. (Recipe change?). A few bubbles of white head. Nose has bready grain. Some old hop. Some toffee. Taste has a bready sweetness. Light, earthy bitterness. Light to medium body. Low carbonation. Earthy bitterness to finish. Feels well past it’s best, although according to the bb date, it isn’t.
