Description
In 2015, multi awarding-winning brewer and publican Olly Bainbridge launched a brand new brewery in Exmouth. With the beer initially produced through “cuckoo” brewing (using spare capacity in an existing brewery), this was the first step towards opening a part-crowdfunded 6 barrel brewery in The Grapevine’s old stables in Exmouth town centre in 2015.

Cask at the Grapevine, Exmouth. Poured a clear medium amber colour with a short-lived frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light woody hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a smooth, malt, earthy, woody hop bitter palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

7/3/2020. Bottle at my Birthday bottle share, bought at Topsham Wines, Topsham. Pours clear mid-dark ruby brown with a bubbly/frothy off-white to beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, coffee and dark fruit. Medium sweetness and moderate roasted bitterness. Medium body, and slight creamy texture. Decent brew but bit too carbonation.

Bottle from Topsham Wines. Totally gusher. Bottle was half emptied and it just kept producing foam coming out on top of the bottle. Huge head with good duration. Color is amber. Aroma and taste are caramel, fruits, malt and hops. Sweet finish.

Bottle. A gift from Totnes. The person not the place. Opened with a big hiss. Very lively pour. Ends up pale, ruby red, with a soft haze. Thick and lively, fairly noisy, off white froth. Nose has caramel malt. Ginger biscuit. Hint of milk chocolate. Dried fruit. Taste is lightly vinous. Bit of an unintentional twang, I think. Light body. Very lively, burp inducing carbonation. More vinous twang to finish. Well it might have gone a bit wonky since it was bottled in January, but quite enjoyed it, nonetheless.

21st Sep 2018, 500ml bottle: BBE May 2019. Drank at home and poured into a vase shaped 'Old Speckled Hen' pint glass. Clear golden body, thin white head that although left lacing, it became a wisp and collar very quickly. Hop centric in both the aroma and taste, semi-bitter and fairly dry in the mouth.

Bottle from Greendale Farm Shop. Limited Edition 250 bottles. Hazy pale golden, fluffy head. Malty start with sourish yeasty notes and some aromatic citrusy hops. Lively carbonation. Very nice but it comes with an ambitious price tag.

500ml bottle; BB 13th Sep 2018. Broached at home on 27th July 2018 and poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard. Golden body, wisp and collar fro a head. Cascade hops doing a fine job here, light citrus notes and a mild bitterness, malty base gives some sweetness to the brew. Easy drinking and inoffensive.
