Description
CRATE was established in 2012 when the Olympics were in full swing just over the canal, and Hackney Wick was changing fast. CRATE thrives on creativity, free thinking, and working hard. The experimental brewhouse is where all the Limited Edition beers are created.

Latest news November 2020:
The situation is complex, but it seems that there were two separate companies, one for brewing and one for the bar business. Both hit financial trouble, and the brewing company went into administration. Truman's, needing a new site due to delays with their new brewery, are currently brewing in Crate's old brewing space. But the website is still online and Crate beers are still available...

Cask at Crate during RBESG 2014. It pours clear golden with a small white head. The nose is toasty, grain, caramel, mild spice, orange, pineapple and peach. The taste is bitter, orange peel, light tangerine, light soap, caramel and light pine with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Well rounded and easy going. Not bad.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s - London. Pours clear gold with a foamy, white head. The aroma holds bready pale malts, faint caramel, ripe orange, mellow pine. Medium sweet flavor with chunky, bready malts, some oily hops, low bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with mild piney resins, more pale, bready malts, light toasted sugars. Simple APA stuff. Fine.

Keg @ Mother Kelly’s. Pours deep black with brown head. Body is like thick cough syrup, viscous and smooth with a strong booziness. Thick malts, dark fruits, liquorice and sweet molasses.. taste was just a little strong and full-bodied for me though.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s, 27/06/14. Pitch black with a big filthy, I repeat dirty filthsome tan head that eventually dissipates and lingers as a swirl. Nose is big roast malt, chocolate, tar, liqourice, toffee, light booze. Taste comprises chocolate milkshake, light smoke, molasses, dark toffee fudge, burnt sugar, pinch of spice. Full bodied, oily on the palate, light warming booze in the close. Decent impy.

Bottle from Sourced Market. Clear amber body with a thin off-white head. No carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma of metal and orange. Flavour of blood orange, rust and sour pear. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Light fizz. Lacking in punchy flavour and drinkability. Not great.
