Description
CRATE was established in 2012 when the Olympics were in full swing just over the canal, and Hackney Wick was changing fast. CRATE thrives on creativity, free thinking, and working hard. The experimental brewhouse is where all the Limited Edition beers are created.
Latest news November 2020:
The situation is complex, but it seems that there were two separate companies, one for brewing and one for the bar business. Both hit financial trouble, and the brewing company went into administration. Truman's, needing a new site due to delays with their new brewery, are currently brewing in Crate's old brewing space. But the website is still online and Crate beers are still available...

500ml bottle. Clear darkest copper to mahogany colour with small to average, firm, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Cautious aroma in general, fruity hints of berries, a touch of toffee. Taste has notes of berries, a touch of walnut, minimally hints of caramel and toffee, dry finish; really impressing, extremely soft palate, matching fine, microporic carbonation.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from the Drinkersโ Paradise. Pours clear, red-brown with a creamy beige cap. Plenty of well toasted brown bread in the nose, light roast, some milk chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavor, mild bitter earth, some further milk chocolate, light chalky cocoa, some toasty sugars and bread. Light to medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Sweet toasted bread finish, hints of dirt, cocoa, mellow roast, slight minerals and char. A nicely rounded stout. Not the most complex beer in the world but highly drinkable and enjoyable.

Gravity cask at the Strongroom London beer fest. Pours dark brown with no head. Burnt bread in the nose, some milk chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavor, some sticky chocolate, mellow roast, light dirt, toast. Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Sweet dark bread to finish, a bit more cocoa, faint roast, some burnt meat. Decent though the condition could be a lot better.

Cask at Stourbridge Beer Festival; missed this from the festival round up, clear golden amber pour with small white head, citrus aroma, citra comes through in the taste quite zesty with a hint if spice.
