[Cask at the Greyfriar, Reading.] A reddish chestnut pour with a tight white head; spicy malt aroma; sweet malty taste with a little spice; then a syrupy finish with some hedgerow hops and a dry biscuity aftertaste. A solid Irish Ale.

Can at home picked up from Sainsbury's. A hazed deep orange gold coloured pour with a fading off white head. Aroma is soft wheat, semi sweet, powdery sugars, pear drops, vanilla, some hop duct, alcohol. Flavour is composed of juicy orange, peach, pear, pithy, juicy fruits, alcohol, fizzy citrus. Palate is semi sweet, pithy, alcohol bite, highish carbonation.

This is basically a stronger version of Cwtch and my review of that beer still applies. Anyway, cask at Pickled Pig, Stafford. Pours reddish-brown with a medium sized frothy cream head and good lacing. There’s malts and humbugs in the aroma plus a hint of almonds. In the mouth it has a layer of sweetness on top of a bitter base. Flavours of grains, rye, traditional hops, caramel and toffee. A little lemon sharpness comes through later leading to a bitter tangy finish. This is decent.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a medium sized foamy tan head and good lacing. There’s malts, strawberries and chocolate in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and juicy with a creamy texture. Flavour has a constant basis (malts, chocolate, grapes) but a slowly changing additional character (Molasses, spirits, cherries, toffee – not necessarily in that order). Sweet lasts into the finish. This is decent.

Aroma is semi sweet powdery peach, nectarine, juice, creamy wheat, little adjunct on the nose, Flavour is composed of powdery wheat, creamy, peach melba, nectarine, fruit culee. Palate is pithy, grainy, moderate carbonation. not bad.
