I don’t know how Martin House keeps coming up with these beers. Cream Ale? Sign me up. A 12 oz can from the singles rack at the closest HEB. Opened and tilting into a snifter, the appearance is a clear coppery amber body finished by a slender skim of medium tan foam. Interesting nose, I get caramel and maple, plenty enough. The drink is sweet, very sweet. Maple syrup, cereal, honey and caramel. I know the intent but this one a bit too much for me.

Cloves, espresso, toffee, light soy, and toast. Sweet and malty and a bit acrid. Some musty bitterness. Medium to heavy body, sharp, and a bit thin. Pretty nice.

Aromas are malt, fruit punch and cheese. Flavors are similar to nose and a little more tart than sweet. Okay body and carbonation. Fruit punch flavor is a bit subdued. Nice to try once.

Tons of chocolate fudge cake on the nose. Kind of has a grocery store chocolate cupcake flavour. Pours black without much head. Some roast, lots of icing sugar. Comes off pretty sweet on the finish. Tap at Roosevelts at 7.

I have a 12 oz can that came from my local beer shop at a customer-friendly price. Martin House is a fine Ft. Worth brewery willing to take chances with its brews. They don't always work out but usually the results are good. I open the can and tilt inside of my Cowtown tulip glass to see a highly viscous, jet black body carrying a thin head of dark brown foam that quickly dissipates. The scent has a decent start, the cherries do not overwhelm. There is also grain and chocolate. The first taste now, ah, it goes in a different direction. Not over-the-top sweet like most pastry stouts. Dark chocolate, cereal grains, cherries in an acceptable amount, leather and a touch of vanilla. I get a slight bitterness at the finish. A fine enough imperial stout, an interesting beer.

I found a 12 oz can priced right at the local beer shop. Martin House continually delivers imperial stouts with more hits than misses, I hope they continue that pattern. The can is slightly cooled off on this cold and windy day in west Texas. I have a snifter from Buffalo Bayou in place as I make the pour. The body is tuxedo black with a quickly disappearing cover of dark tan foam. Fortunately there is a steady stream of very fine bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass. I get a nose of vanilla, cocoa and scorched grain. But it is the taste I am here for. And that is pretty fine. I call it tasting similar to a chocolate pecan pie. Baking chocolate, malt, marshmallow, a bare hint of pecans and baked wheat bread. Sweet of course but not too much. Quite enjoyable.

Can shared by Steve (13.5%). Opaque, inky black, thin cap of head, nice viscosity, trace lacing. Aroma is well balanced strong rum, coconut, roasted malt, Maraschino/dark cherry. Taste is well balanced rich roasted malt, rum, coconut, cherry. Smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste. Alcohol is totally hidden. Rum is present but well balanced.

Some raspberry, lemon. Pours pale golden with pretty quickly dissipating head. Tart finish, a real sour at least. Tap at Flying Saucer in DFW.

12 oz can. Aroma has notes of chocolate milk, cherries, roast, wet stone, vanilla. Pours inky black with a half finger tan head with decent retention. Taste is lightly to moderately sweet with a firmly bitter backbone. Flavors of the adjuncts. The cherry is pretty subdued but becomes a little more prominent as it warms up.

Aromas are MJ, malt, citrus and resin. Flavors are similar to nose with MJ standing out. Body in carbonation are okay and a little chalky.
