4 ounce draft at the brewery. Flavor shows light herbal, light berry, citrus rind. Does have a nice bitterness that’s soft with a crisp texture.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7
Deep amber coloured body with a slightly hazy glow of copper and light brown with a thinnish off-white head that fades fairly quickly and just leaves a thin lace on top. Aroma of smoked grain with a light toastiness, some subtle caramelised and toffee notes with a light sweetness and some meaty and mushroomy scents as well, but quite funky and very deep in terms of smoke. Medium-bodied; Very earthy and nutty malt flavours with a lot of smoke and rustic qualities with a deep bitterness here and a lot of dryness as well, but there is a tiny bit of caramelised sugars and light toffee notes to add some sweetness, but this really is all about the malts, associated bitterness from those and the smokiness. Aftertaste is dry, very smoky, quite deep and robust with a lot of nutty and especially earthy, rustic qualities. Overall, a pretty nice, lighter, but still deeply smoked grain beer that hits the notes nicely for the style and brings out a robust, flavourful package while still being very drinkable. Great to sample, especially on a bigger day in terms of Alaska politics! I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from La Bodega in Anchorage, Alaska on 05-October-2021 for US$3,30 sampled at my house here in Washington, across the whole of this country (and stupid Canada) sampled on 16-August-2022, primary day in Alaska politics, with the tagline 'Where there's smoke, there's fire' on the bottom without a date.
jgb9348 (11828) reviewed Pumpkin Spice Wheat Ale from 49th State Brewery 4 years ago
Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7
Fairly hazy deep amber and bronze coloured body with a thick-ish two to three centimetre tall off-white head that is large-bubbled and stays afloat nicely. Aroma of bright pumpkins, spice, flowers, vanilla and squash elements with a good deal of coriander seed and allspice with the ubiquitous clove and canella scent that drives everything else. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong spicey flavours show through everything with a good deal of malts, but a lot less of the sweetness and floral aspects, which just leaves the pungent spiciness that comes through very strongly here. Aftertaste shows a good balance of malts, sugars and of course spicey flavours, while being easy-drinking enough to sample a full pint even when another more enticing beer is ready (sour). Overall, a nice and robust, very pumpkiny and spiced beer that hits the palate nicely and a bit deeper than I expected for the style, a great one to sample last on my day trip to Alaska! I sampled this twelve ounce pour on draught at 49th State Brewery here in [downtown] Anchorage, Alaska on 05-October-2021 for US$4,00 sampled while here in Alaska for the day, after being here with my family on vacation a few months ago.

Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 8 | Flavor - 7 | Texture - 6 | Overall - 7
Fairly cloudy and hazy golden, peach coloured body with a thinnish off-white head that fades quickly and leaves just about nothing to top, just a few seconds later. Aroma of super soured and tart fruit notes showing the fresh passionfruit along with some guava, papaya and pineapple with a crisp malt punch and a dry character at the end. Medium-bodied; Strong pineapple and especially passionfruit flavours dominate here with a ton of sour and tart elements that especially hit towards the end with a literal puckering quality that comes through, and leaves the palate refreshed and soured. Aftertaste shows a lot of ther tropical notes of course with a bunch of sweetness and a good crisp tartness that balances the fruit, malt and sweetness nicely here. Overall, a very enjoyable and crisp, super soured and ultra-tropical beer with a lot of tart flavours, but more from the fruity side, but very nice overall and great to sample, especially super fresh, even when it's chilly outside! I sampled this twelve ounce pour on draught at 49th State Brewery here in [downtown] Anchorage, Alaska on 05-October-2021 for US$7,00 sampled while here in Alaska for the day, after being here with my family on vacation a few months ago.
