Bottled. Ah, yes. The Goose was the first brewpub I ever knew of, and I enjoyed grabbing a couple of Gooses by the neck... and then this came along: the first beer that made me say, "Oh... my... freakin' God!" Now it's out in bottles though hard to find:
A deeper Imperial Stout-type nose. Big bourbon flavor, even powerful like a Hennessey. Beautiful black with red highlights. I saw the bourbon barrels they were aging this in at the brewery a few months back, and I'm pleased to say they've bottled it beautifully!

2016 bottle from trade. Deep brown porter pour, a bit of fizz that's gone swiftly. Nose of sweet chocolate and cherry. Taste carries just a light chocolate note, and there's some vanilla, too. Would be astounding with some time in a bourbon barrel, but this is just fine. Mouthfeel is kind of light for a 10% abv beer. But there's some fine prickly effervescence, that's held up incredibly for an almost 10-year old big bottle. Warming alcohol slips in there after a while. Great high-end beer from a brewery that we keep thinking MIGHT return.

From a holiday mixed 6 at Trader Joe's. Pours a light brown under a puffy tan head. Nose has caramel-treacle malts, and a distinct English hop load: kind of earthy. Nicer taste than other Samuel Smith's I've found. Malts and hops carry through from the nose. Noticeable difference in taste from brewing water, a bit more minerally than is typical.

2023 bottle. Nice maple syrup smell as I pour into my tulip. Foamy brown head that dwindles swiftly. With my nose in the glass, I get some hot alcohol with a lighter note of maple. Taste has bourbon with extra sweetness. Kind of like an Old Fashioned. Gets heady after a few sips. The bourbon and maple are much more noticeable that any roasty malt, so it's a different beast that other Impy Stouts.

RATEBEER RATING #3,200! 5 oz. glass, $8 at the Barrelman's Room of Ballydoyle, Downers Grove. Even this tiny taster glass has a very strong smell of bourbon and maple syrup. A somewhat stiff tan head that took a while to dwindle, leaving some legs behind. The taste is full and sugary. Like the current KBS, it packs 11.7% abv, but the actual alcohol doesn't show itself after the first few sniffs. The texture is lighter than how I remember the KBS, but there is a distinct note of maple, too. After the first few sips, it comes across like a bourbon with a maple chaser. I also get some notes of vanilla from the barrel aging, and coffee from the roast malt. It’s a big beer, surprisingly not very heady, making it very easy to make the mistake of slurping it all down.
