Can from the brewery in April, 2025. Lightly hazy red-amber with fine particulate mist and some floaties, trace sparkle, thin head with fair retention and light lacing. Aroma is strong caramel over peaty malt, late milder maple. Taste is mix all at once of the caramel, peaty malt and maple. Smooth, velvety texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste with only a hint of bitterness. Better balance to the flavor than the aroma but they're all on top of each other so it comes off a bit weird. Very nice palate.

Can (4/8/25) from the brewery. Pale yellow with nice sparkle, big head with fair retention and no lacing. Aroma is strong white grape, bit of white wine, mild tropical fruit over pale/Pilsner malt, hint of matchstick. Taste is white grape over pale/Pilsner malt, minerals, late hint of matchstick. Frothy texture, soft carbonation and dry finish as taste. The Nelson (grape-y kind, not herbal) carries the day, which I really like. Pilsner malts are there but subdued with everything else going on, which I also like. Enjoyable.

Can from Steve. Hazy orange-yellow with tons of sparkle, thin head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is white grape with lighter citrus and pine, very mild herb. Taste is white grape with bitter pine and grapefruit. Smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation, dry, crisp finish as taste with lingering yeast and bitterness. The good news is I'm not sure any of its shortcomings have to do with reducing the gluten. The bad news is that there's a good thing going with sweet grape-y Nelson that then gets arrested by the bitter pine. Would be much better with enhancing the bright citrus aspects of Motueka or going with Citra.

On tap as part of a flight at the brewery. Hazy, pale yellow, no sparkle, no head or lacing. Aroma is strong Smartie. Taste is bubblegum, mild candied fruit. Smooth texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste. This beer is confusing, first as an NEIPA, and then as a beer in general. What are you trying to be? Fortunately, not bad in any way.
