7.9/10 Appearance 7 Aroma 8 Flavor 8 Texture 8 Overall 8
Can (2/24/25) from the taproom. Appearance is virtually opaque, cola brown with nice sparkle, foamy head with good retention and trace lacing. Aroma is strong, roasted, earthy, bittersweet malt, mild coffee. Taste mirrors aroma. Smooth, silky texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Strong aroma and flavor, not too bitter.

8.3/10 Appearance 8 Aroma 8 Flavor 8.5 Texture 9 Overall 8
Can (5/15/25) from the taproom. Cloudy, bright yellow, tons of sparkle, massive head with excellent retention and soapy lacing. Aroma is strong white grape over much milder herb, hints of grapefruit and citrus. Taste mirrors aroma. Smooth, creamy texture, soft carbonation, finish as taste with vague background sense of alcohol but is neither burn nor astringency nor harshness. Just a "presence." Am super glad that somebody got the white grape out of a recent(?) crop of Nelson--welcome back! Manages to dodge the usual sin of inability to cover alcohol. Good execution of a Triple.

8.1/10 Appearance 7 Aroma 8 Flavor 8.5 Texture 9 Overall 8
Bottle from the brewery. Opaque dark brown, thin ring of head, nice viscosity. Aroma is strong earthy, woody malt, spicy bourbon, some alcohol in the nose (less as it warms). Taste follows aroma with vague fruit as it warms. Smooth, relatively thick texture, medium body, soft carbonation, significant (pleasant) alcohol warmth. A strong stout but not overbearing. I love the variety in this series--really highlights the different bourbons. Characteristics of the base stout and barrel are allowed to make their presence known, but no doubt there is a spiciness and punch from the Whistle Pig.
