Bottle from Hop Burns and Black, enjoyed watching Munster v Stormers. Deep ruddy brown with a thin tan head that leaves an oily film. Nose of rum & raisin, prunes, molasses. Taste is big dried fruit sweetness, medium bitterness, brandy warmth. Full body, quite flat and creamy, lingering boozy fruit cake finish. Very nice.

Bottle from Hop Burns and Black enjoying the rugby. Cloudy golden amber with a nice pillowy head that fades. Nose of banana, butterscotch, grassy hops. Medium banana sweetness, decent hop bitterness. Interesting balance of lager and weiss. Medium body, lively carbonation, lingering wheat lager finish. Very drinkable.

Bottle from Hop Burns and Black, enjoyed in front of the rugby. Lovely golden amber with a sturdy white head. Nose of apricot, apples, grape. Light sweetness, medium bitterness, medium sour at the finish. Light body for the ABV, prickly lively carbonation, slightly astringent. Tart sourness lingers. Gentle warmth in the belly after. Complex and interesting.

Draught pint at the Ivy House. Lightly hazy golden, very thin head of bubbles. Nose is sharp brambly hops on a honey malt undertone. Light-medium sweetness, medium bramble hop bitterness that spreads beautifully over the palate. Light-medium body, lively carbonation. An absolute beaut of the genre.

Cask pint at the Ivy House. Nice looking, deep amber with an off-white head. Fairly typical marzen - sweet treacle-y notes, little hops, not that interesting. Went for it given the season's that's in it but a reminder that I'm just not a fan of the style.

Can from Hop Burns and Black. Pours a nice bright golden, lightly hazy, big white foam that slowly recedes to a thin layer. Nose of grapefruit, pine, wheat. Taste is light but well balanced, light sweetness, medium bitterness. Body is a little light but to be expected for the ABV, lingering citrus hops. Nice.

Can from Hop Burns and Black. Pours extremely pale yellow, almost no colour. Big bubbly head that fizzes and disappears. Nose is clean pine, bramble, lemon, corn. Subtle but pleasant flavour, light lager malt and lemon and grape hop bitterness. Light body, but big satisfying lively carbonation. Light and lagery, pleasant enough.
