Can from the cornershop. Looks appetising, bright amber with a decent white head that slowly fades. Nose is lemon, pine, caramel. Medium sweetness, light-medium bitterness. Very British flavours. Light-medium body, lively carbonation, lingering woody hop bitterness, reasonably dry. Decent old-school pale ale.

440ml can from Hop Burns and Black. Cloudy golden yellow with a white head that recedes. Dank juicy nose of papaya, pineapple, grape, onion. Medium fruity sweetness, medium bitterness. Pretty nicely balanced. Body is a bit light, surprisingly watery for the ABV. Tasty beer if imperfect.

Bottle from Hop Burns and Black, enjoyed watching Munster v Stormers. Deep ruddy brown with a thin tan head that leaves an oily film. Nose of rum & raisin, prunes, molasses. Taste is big dried fruit sweetness, medium bitterness, brandy warmth. Full body, quite flat and creamy, lingering boozy fruit cake finish. Very nice.

Bottle from Hop Burns and Black, enjoyed in front of the rugby. Lovely golden amber with a sturdy white head. Nose of apricot, apples, grape. Light sweetness, medium bitterness, medium sour at the finish. Light body for the ABV, prickly lively carbonation, slightly astringent. Tart sourness lingers. Gentle warmth in the belly after. Complex and interesting.

Draught pint at the Ivy House. Lightly hazy golden, very thin head of bubbles. Nose is sharp brambly hops on a honey malt undertone. Light-medium sweetness, medium bramble hop bitterness that spreads beautifully over the palate. Light-medium body, lively carbonation. An absolute beaut of the genre.
