A massive fruity punchbowl straight from the wastelands; Battle Axe is a 7.2% Hazy IPA, and the latest from Bobbi Abbey.
Courtesy of the Yakima Valley Hop Breeding Collective we have HCB1019 which has been causing a splash in the States. Honeydew melon, peach, coconut and orange are all at the foreground, providing those big juicy flavours we’ve come to know and love in Bobbi Abbey’s series. While HCB1019 is swinging its axe around, there’s Nectaron and Mosaic adding an extra hit of soft stonefruit.

Can. Hazy gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, a mild dryness, decent fine carbonation. Light bodied pale malts, a fairly pronounced creamy sweetness. Soft pine and a light and very soft savoury skunk. Hops are dominated by the HBC1019 coconut limey Sorachi madness but, it doesn't sit as well with the mild skunky vibe. Reasonably juicy stone fruits on the very end with a little hop spice thrown in. Nice IPA, coulda been great.

Third of a pint, on a flight in the Old Bike Store, Worthing, early evening on 19th July 2025. Opaque golden body, snow white crown. Citrus feel from start to finish, peaches, oranges and melons, but not in that order! Too fruity for my palate really, a fruit cocktail without any real hop bitterness.

440ml can from the Beer Bank, Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Poured a murky yellow colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy, tropical citrus. The flavour is moderate sweet and bitter, with a smooth, oaty, somewhat rich, creamy, light dank, juicy tropical citrus, mango, passionfruit, tart pineapple, dry, light hop bitter palate. Over medium bodied with average carbonation.
