From the German word for “Bright”, our golden lager displays a floral hop aroma with a bready malt balance. Traditional in style, Helles is brewed with Pilsner Malt to produce a dry, snappy finish while Perle and Tettnanger hops create a spicy, herbal hop aroma. The result is an incredibly clean, yet complex, lager.

Tap: Poured a deep golden color Helles with a small foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of clean cereal notes with light floral aroma. Taste is also dominated by light floral aromas with some clean cereal notes a medium sweet finish. Body is about average for style with medium carbonation. Refreshing and well brewed for style.

(1er mai 2013)

Draft, Three Penny Taproom. Clear straw yellow in color. Good retention. Nose is grassy hops and traces of malt. Strong amount of grain. Tiny bitterness in the finish. Floral hops. Texture is light and thin. True to the style. Decent. This style in general isn’t something I seek. However, I understand why people come to love theses.

Trapp Family Lodge, Stowe, VT sampler: Pours a pale gold with a white head. Aroma is so light as to be almost non-existent. Taste is also very light and doesn’t have some of the qualities that I look for in a helles, which is one of my favourite beer styles. It does have good malt character, but kind of not enough of it to really stand out. Light hoppage as expected. It is refreshing and crisp, but the German examples of this style still wow me a lot more.

On tap at The Reservoir Waterbury Vt. Pours a deep golden color with a huge rich off white head that sticks around forever. Smells of grainy bready malts with rich melanoids mixed in. Earthy floral hops are more aggressive than I would have thought. Taste is sweet grainy toasty bready malts with hints of honey, burnt sugar and an earthy hop bitterness that threw me at first. Finish leaves a sweetness with an earthy hop bitterness. Medium body with crisp carbonation and a sweet almost sticky mouthfeel. Great Lager that I’m glad I tried on a whim.

A golden helles with a thin white head. A nice biscuitty malt with light chalky notes, and light honey. In mouth, a light and smooth Helles with grainy malt, light German hops, not bad. On tap at American Flatbread, July 17 2010.
