Once thought to be extinct, the Wookey family comes roaring back with its wooliest progeny yet: an imperial black rye IPA that is wickedly hoppy, righteously spicy and fearsome in flavor. While exhibiting DNA from its Wookey Jack ancestry, Wookus offers next-generation attitude with amplified hop aromatics and a bit of rebellious dankness. The result is a beer that blends the familiar with the ferocious. Right out of Firestone Walker mythology and into your glass—behold the beast that we call Wookus.

Poured up on tap at Tipsy Cactus where it exhibits a deep dark body that supports a nice mocha head of foam. The aroma offers up a dark roasted malts, chocolate and a rye like twang. The taste delivers smooth rich dark roasted and thin chocolate malts. To midway citrus and vague hop bitterness surface amidst all the roastiness. Pretty solid and a little thinner, lighter and softer thin Wookie.

On tap at Belmont. Pours a pitch black color with a medium white head. A big roast and tropical nose. Fresh fruity hops, ash, dark chocolate, some bitterness. Damn good. I love Black IPAs and they don't make near enough.

(Thanks, Jim! "Ozzy70") Can. A- Pine, citrus, floral, rye. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, light brown head. T- Citrus, tangerine, bitter, pine, slightly earthy, rye. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Typically, I don't go for any IPA, let alone Black IPA's, but when given a new rate from a friend, I wouldn't hesitate. Turned out to enjoy this much more than I expected. Bitterness was balanced and not too aggressive. Better than I would've guessed.

10 oz. draft at Thirsty Moose, (Exeter location). Nose of dank pine with a bright citrus. Also roasted malt and cocoa. Flavor is roasted malt, dry pine, and shows more of a citrus bitterness. Great fuller body that lean's in the stout direction. Dry texture with a steady amount of bitterness. A very well crafted example of a Black IPA.

Black with an off-white head. Roasted, pine, spice, rye. Full bodied. Finish has light roasted notes and a good spicy bite. Nice brew and I don’t normall like Black IPAs.
