Een authentiek trappistenbier
Chimay 175 is een verfrissend bier dat meteen een rijk aroma onthult, waarin kruidige en fruitige toetsen elegant samensmelten. De neus onthult de frisheid van citrusvruchten, geaccentueerd door een uitgesproken pittige noot van kardemom en koriander. Een vleugje rode appel zorgt voor een zachte en fruitige toets, terwijl subtiele accenten van anijs en vanille de aromatische complexiteit verrijken.
Deze rijkdom aan smaken zet zich voort in de mond: de kruiden zijn perfect in balans met de levendigheid van de citrusvruchten. De afdronk is droog en verfijnd en verdwijnt zachtjes met een elegante kruidige toets.
Een beetje geschiedenis
Sinds 1850 is de Abdij van Scourmont de bakermat van authentieke trappistenbieren. Ter gelegenheid van het 175-jarige bestaan van de abdij presenteert de brouwerij van Chimay een exclusieve creatie: Chimay 175. Een feestelijk bier, gebrouwen met passie en traditie, verkrijgbaar in beperkte oplage.

750 ml bottle. Pours a bright amber with moderate head. Aromas of fruity Belgian yeast, dried stoned fruit, and toasted malts. Flavors follow same with andditional coriander and some phenolics; plus more grainy malts. Good.

750mL bottle, pours a hazy pale golden with a medium white head. Aroma is plenty of spicy Belgian yeast, a touch of liquorice, fennel, and dry bready malt. Flavour is full of spicy Belgian yeast, fennel, some black liquorice, and dry bready malt. Nice spicy expression as expected, finishing dry and spicy. Excellent.

750ml bottle from Raynville Superstore. It pours clear blonde with a lasting, fluffy white head. The aroma is toasty grains, freshly baked biscuit, bready malt, bitter - sweet, sponge cake, tangy citrus, orchard fruits, apple, pear, apricot, spice and cereal. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy upfront, rather fruity, ripe stone fruits, pear, apple, dried apricot, tangy citrus, touch of sherbet, toasty grains, grain husks, digestives, bready malts, grassy, spicy and herbal accents with a drying finish. Medium bodied and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Decent depth to it. Quaffable.

Aromas are pale Mall Belgian yeast and spice. Flavors are similar to nose with just right sweetness body and carbonation. A bit champagney. Very nice. At a Chimay 175 tap takeover.

Draft at De Paas, Den Haag. Poured a slightly hazy yellow golden colour with a big lasting frothy white head. The aroma is yeasty, aromatic. The flavour is moderate to light bitter, with a fresh, smooth, yeasty, light aromatic hop bitter palate. Medium to light bodied with average carbonation.

Good dense white head over very carbonated, faintly veiled golden beer. Perfumey with quite a lot of coriander, fake citrus. Soupy. Coriandersoup, even way more than usual from Chimay. Fake citrus in loco of complex aromas. Almost overcarbonated, slick, medium bodied; creamy feel from the head. Bon Dieu, sauvez-nous! A trappist brewery making a special anniversary beer, and turning out something dull as from an international macro. Completely commercial, even for Chimay standards. Txs to Stef!

Golden yellow with large white head. Lemon, orange, yeast, biscuit malt, and straw aroma. Moderately sweet orange, lime, biscuit malt, yeast, and mildly bitter hay flavor. Nice body. Excellent.

Draught at Monk's: pours gold with white head. Aroma is yeasty, fruity melange. Quite sweet. Light touch of bitterness. Lingering and very pleasant aftertaste.
