L’Ultima Luna is aged in Amarone barrels, filled only for 2/3 of their volume to favor the oxidation of beer with air (a tribute to the oxidized wines of Andalusia). The beer ages at least 24 months, up to 48 months. For the 11th years of the Brewery a special edition of 60 months has been produced. What fascinates in this beer is the exceptional complexity of tertiary aromas due to oxidation (leather, Madeira, dried fruit, cocoa, wood, toasted almond).

Bottle courtesy of MrChopin, thanks! Pours deep ruby purple, small white edge head. Aroma of plums. Taste is syrupy pomegranite powder. Interesting and unique.

Had this at Alvinne CBF 2011. Nice amber colored beer. Smell wine and dark fruits. Taste hints of wine, dark fs and a little alcohol.

Cloudy brown with a small off-white head. Strong aroma dominated by oak with cognac notes, and rich malt. Sweetish vineous and caramel-ly flavour with complex vanilla, oak, raisin and walnut notes.

Location: Bottle graciously shared with me at La Trappe Cafe & Trappist Lounge, 5/12/11

Aroma: The nose has a lot going on including oak/wood, vanilla, booze, malts, and caramel
Appearance: The pour is a dark reddish-brown color with a small bubbly beige head
Flavor: The taste has a good sweetness, rich and malty with some funk and acidic flavors as well
Palate: Really smooth, slight burn, low carbonation, big body, and way too drinkable for a 13% beer
Overall Impression: This was one was really interesting, thanks a bunch for sharing this awesome beer! A very well-made Barley Wine with an interesting complexity that is somewhat boozy but still dangerously drinkable considering the ABV. Anyway, I enjoyed sampling this one.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours very hazy amber. Vinous and oak aromas. Med body. Smooth. Flavor is vinous, lightly brown sugar and rather oaky. A smooth, pleasant experience. Finishes somewhat brandy. Nice.

Sampled at ACBF 2011. Deepamber colour. Sherry and wood aroma. Too much wood maybe. Yep like licking a barrel. Some tangerine fruit. Wood and crystallised tangerine fruit dominate. Tobacco too on the wood notes.

Bottled. An unclear red-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of wood, brettanomyces, malt, and caramel. The flavor is sweet and a bit acidic with notes of caramel, alcohol, wood, brettanomyces, and malt, leading to a dry and slightly tart finish. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours a cloudy opaque dark brown with no head - completely flat. Amazing aroma of Brett, wood and indeed wine. Solid body, caramel, wood, tart cherries and again quite some Brett and funk. A little warming alcohol in the finish. Both delicate and extremely delicious. 230311
