Bottle. Deep, dark brown in color with a small, tan head. Aroma had the smokey smell but not overpowering. Taste is rather smokey but with some coffee undertones.

Super deep dark brown coloured body with a nice three centimetre tall off-white head that looks a touch tan, but is still fairly light compared to the body. Aroma of robust roasted malt, raisins, nuts, earth and a quite heavy dose of smoke in the form of more aggressive mesquite and hickory. Medium-bodied; Strong rich roasted malt and nutty flavours at first with a heavy hit of molasses and maple syrup with a lot of depth and body behind. Afttertaste shows more of the molasses, raisin, pit fruit and maple syrup flavours than anything else, but a consistent and slightly understated smoke flavour, but the richness from all the malts does come through - perhaps even more so at the end. Overall, an interesting and robust beer from start to finish with a lot of grainy and pungent flavours that still show some sweetness, a lighter side and a pleasant complexity that disagrees with a more astute finish, a convoluted finish and a punch that shows some good reimbursement will come. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Crystal City Wine Shop in Arlington, Virginia on 06-January-2017 for US$3,49 sampled just over two years later on 16-February-2019.

Can thanks to wombat23. Dark brown with a dirty tan head that’s foamy, somewhat fizzy, and soon subsides. Aroma is chocolate, molasses, smoked ham. Taste is bittersweet, full of smoked flavors, bbq, brown sugar. Finish is warming, somewhat harsh, ends with chocolate notes. Body is medium. Overall a middle of the road porter with a smokey, meaty twist. Good.

Bottle thanks to monmisreal, on January 31, 2017.If I remember correctly the bottle was picked up at Lueken’s in Dunedin.Clear deep brown color, tan to yellow/brownish head. Malty, herbal, leafy hoppy, light chocolate scent. Spicy, malty, meaty taste. Meaty, light roasted aftertaste, some liquorice. Medium full mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

$2.90 pint can, Wine Warehouse. Pours dark brown with an inch of tan head. Aroma is coffee, rubber, earth, smoke. The interesting thing is that up close this doesn’t smell like bacon to me, but from a food away I kinda smell bacon. Flavor is smoked meat - not necessarily bacon, earth, coffee, chocolate. It could be more bacony or more smoked.

16 oz can. Very dark root beer colored pour with a thick light brown head and great retention. Spotty lacing. Light smoked bacon nose. Taste is much smokier than the nose. The smoke overwhelms any bacon flavor. Slight medicinal finish. 7.7 ABV is well hidden. Not bad, but I wouldn’t seek it out.
