This is the kind of beer that both puts a spring in your step and transports you to island time. Wiki Wiki Tart is a sour ale that’s equal parts tropical, fruity, floral and funky. The ensemble of hibiscus, passion fruit and raspberries pluck harmonic notes, beginning with the passionate pink color and continuing through to its puckering flavor profile. Couple that with the soft touch of wheat, oak and complementary island-esque spices, and you wouldn’t dream of trading places with anyone else (unless they’re sharing this beer with you but wearing a better Hawaiian shirt).

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/8/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 2-3 finger fairly dense and fluffy off whit head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy raspberries, passion fruit, cranberry, fruit skin/seeds, hibiscus, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, mango, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, passion fruit, raspberry, hibiscus; moderate spices, oak, and pale/wheat malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge sour/tart/tangy raspberries, passion fruit, cranberry, fruit skin/seeds, hibiscus, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, mango, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang, and yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy berries, passion fruit, fruit skin/seeds, hibiscus, lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, mango, melon, apricot, red/green apple, white grape/wine, oak, peppercorn, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light leathery/musty/funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, passion fruit, raspberry, hibiscus; moderate spices, oak, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/sour/spiciness balance; with no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sour/spiciness, and carbonation. High carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, and moderately bready/grainy/acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. No warming alcohol for 7.1%. Overall this is an incredible fruited sour/wild ale. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic/spicy yeast, passion fruit, raspberry, hibiscus; moderate spices, oak, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink with the moderately acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Amazing balance of juicy fruits/hibiscus, and Brett/Bacteria complexity; with great oak foeder presence, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Zero residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A highly enjoyable offering and top tier style example. Not much spice presence after 3 years as expected.

750 ml bottle shared by AdamChandler. Pink in color, lots of fizzy carbonation. Aroma is mostly sour passion fruit with a mild flower note.

Upfront it has moderate passionfruit, oak, lemon juice, and tart raspberry. Hibiscus is more just a dried flower note. Has a acidic aftertaste. This has almost everything I dislike about sour ales in general. Not enjoyable for my tastes.

The Fourth Beer of my #6000 celebration (#4 of 13 - six beers on either side of 6000 and the milestone itself). Exploding bottle when you first crack it with a ton of bubbles rising out. Nice crisp peach, copper and light pink coloured body with a large tan head, that’s about four centimetres tall at first that fades like a soda to absolutely nothing a few seconds later. Aroma of sour grapes, light funk, gueuze, yeast and a ton of citrus - very little else and not much like a typical beer. Light-bodied; Assertive effervescence; Strong sour flavours at first with raspberries, lemons, grain and a touch of funk noticeable without much malt, depth or any hops whatsoever. Aftertaste is more of the tart and sour notes that were front and centre before with the raspberries, lemons and oranges that are noticeable along with a touch of tropical fruitiness and hint of yeast. Overall, a decent beer, but not showing enough complexity or depth that you’d expect from the style or any malt at all - this is mild and tart for sure, but it takes away from the beer as a whole. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Trader Joe’s in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 19-October-2016 for US$9,99 sampled at home in Washington on 07-March-2017. 2016 Bottle // Purchased: 19-October-2016 // Sampled: 07-March -2017

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fruity with quite a bit of passion fruit and some lighter raspberry. Some medium light hibiscus notes. Faint oak and citrus notes with some light grain notes. I don’t really pick up the spices, just the floral and fruit notes. Pours a fairly clear, bright, red-orange with a medium large to large, somewhat thin, frothy, rocky, off-white, pinkish head that recedes quickly and disappears. No lacing or legs. Flavor has a moderately strong acidity, slightly sharp with some faint sweetness and light grain notes. Light raspberry notes with a bit of passion fruit. medium light hibiscus notes. Some light citrus and pineapple notes. Faint oak notes. Light spicy phenolic notes, but its hard to distinguish and identify them. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a good beer but not a great one. It feels like it is missing something, but I can’t put my finger on it. Perhaps its a bit thin and sharply acidic which gives it a bit of a watery note?

Capped 750 from the Woodland CostCo. Pours dark pink/orange with a huge foamy pale pink head. Aroma starts tartish, and then a load of raspberry surges out of the foam. Getting some tropicals, but raspberry is the main thing. Med + body. Flavor is tart raspberry, maybe some cherry, then some papery wheatishness. Oak astringency. Floral. Back to mild raspberry. It’s going funky now. Back to wheat. Round and round the flavors go. Pretty nice stuff. Starting to think there’s pineapple. Might just be acidity, but, no, I think that finally pineapple prickliness comes our.
