Joyeux Noël (Music pairing : Mariah Carey, All I ant for Christmas is you !)

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a very dark brown almost black with a reddish hue and a thinnish creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, plums, cherries and berries. Taste is again more dry dark fruits, plums, cherries and berries, some spice, a touch of ginger, slightly acidic with tart vinous notes on the finish. Thin to medium body with a light spritzy oily mouthfeel. Very fruity and very Christmasy. Nice beer.

Head gone in an eyeblink; deep purplish cola-coloured beer. End of bottle harbouring some strange small UFO's, usually associated with old beer (well inside BBd). Alcohol, but also ketone/aldehyde smell. Warm spices, melanoidins. Alcohol and cola spices, sweet, cinnamon, pepper - not unlike chai masala. Dried fruit, caramel, toffee, but nowhere cloying. Feels medium to well-carbonated, all the while looking dead. The peppery flavours extend to burning, warming feel intraoraly. Bit lean feel. Strange beer. De Bie beers were always subject to quirks, often even infection - but no trace of that last here, at least.

Bottle shared with JMD on board Fridtjofen 30.03.20. Almost ebony. Beige head and lacing. Fine aroma and taste of ginger biscuits, muscat nuts, blackberries and blackcurrants.

From the bottle. Auburn in color with a head that soon fades away. Mild aroma of red currant jam and mixed candy. Taste is sweet with a light tang. Lacking in depth. Does it’s thing and exits. Body is medium with a prickly carbonation, lightly sticky, texture slightly watery. Mediocre.
