500ml bottle from Sainsbury's in Chesham, Bucks. A dark ruby/amber coloured pour with a medium off white/beige head on top. Pleasant malty, caramel, dark fruit action. Quite a surprise, really drinkable strong ale. Will pick up some more.

Clear very deep amber beer, looks brown at a glance. Good bubbly pale tan head. Smooth palate, a very mild dryness, good fine minerally carbonation coming through on the back end. Smooth malts, a light malts cream goes well with smooth and rich toffee-caramel that isn't over sweet. Mild esters into ripe orchard fruits. Whisper of something brambley. Smooth finish. Well, this is a superior supermarket beer. It would be even better with some bolder Endeavour and Sovereign hopping but, is tasty and pretty quaffable as it stands.

[50cl bottle from my local Sainsbury's.] An attractive dark copper with a thin white head and elegant lacing on the glass; earthy malt aroma; smooth in the mouth with caramel, malt and raisins; then a nutty finish with a light bitterness, and a pleasing warmth in the belly.

Large, beige head, dark amber in colour with ruby highlights. Malty aroma with plenty of dried fruit. Full body, slightly thick, smooth, alcohol nicely hidden but you can feel that it is a strong beer. Malty, toasted, fruity, and chocolate flavours. Pleasant and relaxing.
