Michael Jackson describes “Berlin White Beer” as having an “insistent sparkle, a fragrant fruitiness in the nose, a sharp, dry palate, and a frisson of quenching, sour acidity in the finish.”
North Coast Tart Cherry Berliner Weisse is made with the juice of Michigan Montmorency cherries, whose addition softens the lactic finish of the beer and gives it a springtime blush.

Sample at Bob’s Bar. Clear reddish-amber color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly to a sparse outer ring. Spotty lacing. Aroma of tart cherry, yeast and malt. Light-bodied with a tart cherry character and notes of yeast and biscuit malt. The finish is mildly sour with a cherry aftertaste.

22 oz clear bottle from Inside the Cellar beer club. Looks like a bottle of mead or rosé wine. Aroma is cherry Kool Aid powder, wheat, honeysuckle. Pours clear rosé with a large pinkish-white head with good retention. Taste is sour (8/10) and acidic and tastes just like cherry pie filling. Tasty stuff.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 3/10/2017. Pours crystal clear reddish/pinkish orange/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of juicy/lightly tart cherries, lemon, peach, pear, green apple, almond, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, cherries, and light pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big juicy/lightly tart cherries, lemon, peach, pear, green apple, almond, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and light cherry tang on the finish. Lingering notes of tart cherries, lemon, peach, pear, green apple, almond, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, cherries, and light pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tartness balance; and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from tartness/acidity, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately acidic/grainy, and slightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.1%. Overall this is a very nice fruited Berliner weisse style. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, cherries, and light pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modest acidity/tartness. Really nice level of cherry presence, with great balance of the base style. Very traditional tasting example that is not overly lactic on acidity. A very enjoyable offering.

Not a bad Berliner, weak on the nose but sufficiently tart and full of cherry. Taste has a pleasant rounded sweetness underneath the fruit, notes of brown sugar and malt adding depth to the bright acidity. Finishes yeasty and sour, with a lingering cherry tang. Feel is appropriately light and bubbly. Nice beer for a sunny spring day.

Deep amber color. Surprisingly nice cherry nose, not too sweet, mildly start. The mouth is a bit spicy with good cherry fruit character. Not tart enough but love the fruit. Light body and refreshing

Keg at Mongoose Vs Cobra, Houston. It pours clear rose / red with a decent light pink head. The aroma is fresh, soft, sweet, musty, light funk, grainy and cherry. The taste is crisp, dry, tarty, juicy cherry, raspberry, decent mouthy - pucker, lemon rind and granny smith apple with a dry finish. light - medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Fruity, tart and very easy drinking.
