Think of this as a fresher, hoppier Hefeweizen: smooth, cloudy, and golden-colored. This style dates back to the Middle Ages, where the beer was matured in deep vaults and emerged rich in vitamins.

Can from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours slightly translucent gold with a foamy white head. Aroma of mixed fruits and some pale malt. The aroma has that very lightly roastiness occurring in some German lagers. Maybe there's enough yeast to make that distinction. Much nicer than the typical pale or premium lagers. Med body or so. Flavor is very nice light/roasty malt - arguably with some noble hop bitterness. Not really dry/moderately bitter. But it tastes much better than I can write. Really like the style.

12 oz. bottle, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out grassy notes and crisp crackery malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with crisp crackery malt and crisp grass. Lightly bitter and nicely balanced. Decent.

12oz bottle. Unfiltered yellow-tan body. Not much of a head. Really solid beer. Old world style, medium bodied, very drinkable. Awesome lager tones. Pleasant cloudy wheat, yeast notes as well. Really good.

Some bodega: pours hazy pale with a white head. Aroma is lightly soapy, bready. Taste is bready. Kind of sweet. Does have some hefe elements, but still very much a lager.

Sample at Bottleworks. Pours a hazy light gold with aromas of grass, white pepper and a little lemon. Flavor is the above with a nice honey and dough malt backbone. It’s ok, but kind of boring.

Bottle. Honey and barley malt aroma. Slightly hazy golden yellow with large head. Sweet grainy toffee malt and mildly bitter hay flavor. Nice body. Okay - not much character.

Shaker pint draft at The Blue Line in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a mostly clear golden with a smallish white head. The aroma is dry cereal malts, bread, a bit of fruit and earth mineral. The taste is the wheat cereal grains along with the soft fruit sweetness which has some lemon and finishes dry with mineral earth and a touch of yeast. The palate is light to medium bodied, soft carbonation mineral in the back. Solid, easy drinking.

On tap at Whole Foods Fair Lakes. Pours a murky gold with some fluffy, white head. Nose has some grist, yeast, lemon, light esters, straw, banana, mild spice. Flavor is OK, a little sweet, banana, straw, hay, biscuit, orange. Medium bodied finish.
