Kicking off October with the perfect example of why we do what we do, and why we are how we are. Egger's Hops are a boutique hop grower in New Zealand. Independent, family owned and operated, and now on the 6th generation of hop fanciers (almost certainly not how they refer to themselves...). They specialise in Riwaka, which we have obviously used in this series, alongside Nelson Sauvin (they are in the Nelson region) and Egger's Special, a Riwaka derived hop from specific harvest and selection criteria. It is highly aromatic. Egger's focus their approach on caring for and working with the terroir, the climate, the soil and adjusting their timing to get the best out of their harvests in ever changing planetary conditions. If The Kernel was a hop grower, we'd aspire to be like Egger's.

Bouteille 50cl, bottled 07/10/2025, BB 07/02/2026 - lot# 2862.3082.

500ml bottle. Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma of tropical fruit juice, white wine, gooseberry. Taste is juicy and tropical, guava, mango, gooseberry, white wine, grapefruit, herbal, dank, nice bitterness. Medium bodied.
Think I've mostly had Eggers Special in DIPAs so to have it in this more restrained Pale Ale was different, and it's really great.

Wow that’s good stuff. Unusually clean and dank, some white grape, pithy grapefruit, cat pee, lemony accents. Mellow rindy-piney bitterness. Moreish. Excellent.

Tap at the kernel brewery taproom bermondsey. A translucent golden orange coloured pour with a fine white head. Aroma is big nz hop, tarmac, hockey puck, dry white grape, flint. Flavour is composed of dry flaked wheat, bready grains, drying pithy nz hop, grass, dry white wine, mineral. Palate is dry, flaky, highish carbonation,. Like it, nz hops are very punchy in this one, could be better if complimented by another hop.
