In the beginning, there was an innovative West Coast brewer by the name of Pete, who developed a wicked-good and ground-breaking American ale. This super-tasty beer boasted Brewer’s Gold hops used for dry-hopping and an abundance of specialty malt, which gave it a great character unlike any other beer available. It quickly gained a loyal following among beer lovers, and became known the world-over as the defacto-standard American Brown Ale. Pete is no stranger to the Akron area, having made his Cocoa-Pete’s Chocolates in North Canton and where we first connected. So now, Hoppin’ Frog along with this creative brewing icon have developed Re-Pete 2X as a double version of the original, to pay homage to the innovative energy of American brewers, and deliver a great beer to TRUE BEER LOVERS!

No indication of how old this bottle was, but it was in the sales bin, so obviously not young anymore. Pours a clear deep chestnut brown body and a pretty big beige head with a small layer retention. Aroma's of caramel malts, some red fruit, a bit of butterscotch. Retronasal it's fruity (notably dried), lots of caramel, a little boozy and nutty. Flavour is moderate sweet with light bitterness and light fruity sourness. Body is pretty thin, considering the ABV. Low carbonation. Finishes with light roast, light moderate bitter.

Bottle, 22oz. It's a clear looking amber-brown beer with a dense two-finger dark beige head. Nice lacing. The aroma is really delicious, with some alcohol and a nice piney, grapefruity touch. Roasted malts, chocolate, hints of tobacco and cocoa too. Equally complex flavor with roasted malts and chocolate, citrusy, piney hops, grapefruit notes, tobacco and a spiced hint. It's full-bodied, warming and semi-sweet, nicely carbonated and with a lasting finish. A delicious one indeed, more a Barley Wine than an Imp Brown I think. Not that it matters much. 181229
