Our 10th stop on this Jersey beer journey. Exit 15 - Coffee IPA takes us to Hoboken which at one time housed Maxwell House Coffee. Since Flying Fish considers coffee and beer as two of the four major food groups, we are once again combining them - this time with the help from our friends at Revolution Roasters. A cold brewed special multi-region blend was used in this beer. A big bodied, intensely hopped golden IPA with distinct coffee presence. The beer was hopped, hopped again and then dry hopped with Cascade, Centennial and Citra. Can you say sensory surprise? Enjoy.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a very thick, super soapy tan head, about eight centimetres tall that foams immediately out of the top of the can despite not much pressure being detected before opening. Aroma of deep brewed coffee notes with some cascara coffee/tea (skins) there as well along with some nuttines and rustic qualities from the malts and earthiness here. Medium-bodied; Relatively pungent bittered earthier hop flavours show some nice pungency up front and a slight piney and resinous quality, but the coffee notes are stronger and bring out more of a complex and pungent quality at the end that shows almost more of a porter than an IPA, but the hops are very noticeable in a nice way. Aftertaste shows some nice malt notes with a good balance of earth, grain and some bitterness with a slight dose of sweetness at the very end, but this is about the battle of the coffee and earthiness coupled with the bitterness from the alpha acids in the hops, and it's nice to see the balance struck. Overall, a pretty enjoyable IPA for coffee lovers, since the bitterness from the hops is here (justifying the IPA name) and the coffee flavours are not missable, so this is a bit better than others I've had from the style/name with one of the two aspects not present in the actual beer. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can (labelled as 'Constant Motion'), purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 18-December-2021 for US$3,49, sampled at my house here in Washington on 03-April-2022 after running the Cherry Blossom 10miler with my wife.

Bottle purchased for $9.99 at Liqour Outlet wine Cellar Boonton, NJ. Aroma is sweet grain, earthy coffee and maybe a mocha note. The flavor shows me that maybe this bottle sat around a bit. Hops seems dead. Earthy coffee, sweet grain base, astringent coffee finish.

Poured from bottle thanks Airforcehops golden pour with a nice white head. Aromas of coffee grounds malty pine. Taste is medium body pine resin and lingering coffee at the finish. I like coffee stouts and dank IPAS but this was interesting. --- Beer merged from original tick of Exit 15 - Coffee IPA on 11 Jun 2016 at 17:43 - Score: 6

Location: 750 ml bottle from Sparrow - Downtown, 10/25/15

Aroma: Has some citrus and pine hops over pale malts and bit of a earthy/green vegetable thing
Appearance: It pours a clear orange golden-orange color with a nice sized head and heavy lacing
Flavor: The flavor is much like the aroma suggested, with a light sweetness and a mid-plus bitterness, and then there's a bitter coffee flavor that shows up mid-palate and sticks around through the finish
Palate: This one is medium bodied with a very smooth, soft feel, and a lasting, dry finish
Overall Impression: As a resident of this city, a beer to celebrate Hoboken seem like something I should be drinking. Even if Maxwell House is more synonymous with expensive residential living in this town than it is with coffee these days, a beer celebrating coffee makes sense. Where are the requisite Sinatra and baseball references Flying Fish? As for the beer, the coffee just feels unnecessary. It doesn't show up much in the aroma, but it does in the flavor. I liked the aroma more. I feel like there's a good idea here, but the execution is only okay.

750 ml bottle. Hazy gold color with a moderate Rocky white head that leaves clinging lace. Noticeable coffee aroma mixes with fragrant, spicy citrus hops. Flavor is a blend of bitter spicy hops and mild coffee taste. Resiny bitterness in middle. Dry black pepper in finish. A bit out of balance, as the hops overpower the malt.
