Cloudy copper, big beige head. Lots of coffee in the aroma, bitter coffee ground, and some light fruit and yeasty cereals. The base dubbel is pretty lost, and hard to find. Hints of fruit, and dry dubbel style cereals and light metal, and minerals. But the coffee dominates, and even though it’s quite nice, doesn’t mingle well because of its overpowering nature on the beer.

The aromas are coffee, toast, dark malt, and a hint of black patent. Flavors are similar to nose, Sweet barely dominates, but nice integration of bitter and carbonation. Good body no off flavors in the finish. Drinkable beer.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours fairly hazy deep ruby red/copper/brown color with a 1 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cocoa, medium roast coffee, raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, peppercorn, clove, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of banana, bubblegum, vanilla, smoke, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malts, candi sugar, fruity/spicy yeast, cocoa nib, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cocoa, medium roast coffee, raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, peppercorn, clove, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of banana, bubblegum, vanilla, smoke, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness; and herbal, floral, woody, grassy, roasted coffee bitterness on the finish. Slight yeast tang/tartness. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, cocoa, medium roast coffee, raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, peppercorn, clove, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, brown bread/crust, banana, bubblegum, vanilla, smoke, herbal, floral, wood, grass, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, candi sugar, fruity/spicy yeast, cocoa nib, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and fairly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.2%. Overall this is an awesome flavored Belguian dubbel! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, candi sugar, fruity/spicy yeast, cocoa nib, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish; awesomely soft feel for the style. Awesome balance between rich malts/sugars, Belgian yeast, cocoa, and fruity/nutty coffee complexity; with nice noble hop presence. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive spot on base style example.

Bottle shared at CBC CG - London. Sourced via trade. Pours clear copper-red with a creamy, beige head. The nose holds tangy berries, brown bread, earth, lightly toasted malts. Light to medium sweet flavour with more tangy dried berries, brown bread, a little leather. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Nicely balanced finish, moderate boozy warmth, more leathery and tangy berries. Good stuff overall.

Alisa brought this one back from a trip. ++ Sampled from a can this beer poured a very dark brown color with an enormous fluffy tan head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was malty and dusty with notes of bread crust and coffee. The flavor was brewed coffee, toffee, yeast and vague dark fruit. Long coffee finish. Medium body.

Bottle shared at Craft CG - cheers! It pours cloudy reddish - brown with a medium beige head. The aroma is earthy roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, ash, booze, candied fruits and rocky road. The taste is dry, bitter, earthy roasted malt, chewy, tar, wood, coffee grounds, leather, berry skin, tangy action and cherry cola with some coffee through the finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Interesting stuff. Fun.

Pour is a dark brown with a large tan head Aroma is some dark fruit brown sugar and a wee bit of coffee. Flavor is again a very minor coffee note, some dark candi sugar and a bit of fig. While this was a nice attempt as something different none of the individual flavors came out. Not enough coffee or dark fruit. Again a different attempt so I'll give it props for that.
