Bottle: Drank out of the bottle like a man. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel. Taste was similar caramel, malty, rugged finish, light bitterness.

Pours clear amber with a bubbly white head. Aroma of acerbic malt. Taste is harsh, woody. Palate has some hops, acerbic. Not at all what I expected from the style.

Bottle sent by Shiner for comment. I have to account for these samples having been in transit on a hot UPS truck on their way to me. So I get a hint of dimethyl sulfide in the nose, just enough to stay within the style, though, and which clears off once exposed to air, leaving a rich malt nose. The color is amber, with a large head on the pour. It's a nice example of why I'm a sucker for this style: Rich caramel malts, a noble hop load with just enough pepper to be noticed. And strong enough to make me sit for a spell.

12 oz bottle. Aroma is chalk, generic beer, caramel, hay, vague whiff of vomit. Pours clear copper with a one finger off-white head that falls into a skiff pretty quick; the skiff lasts, Bartholemew! Taste is sweet, toasty, grassy hop bitter. Not too bad, considering the bland/off-putting aroma.

$1.99 bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours medium golden with only a dusting of a head. Smells of autumn leaves, Apple, grass, metal. Flavor is all of the above minus the Apple. Finishes bitter metallic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Slightly hazy light copper color with a nice off-white head. Sweet nutty, malty aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet with a slight bitterness in the finish that shouldn’t be there. A bit thin.

12 ounce can. Pours a clear orange color with a small white head. A big sweet malty sweet nose. The flavor is sweet caramel, toast, fresh fruity noble hops. Smooth. Very sweet. OK.
