The brown ale to end all brown ales. Enjoy it, because there is no longer any reason to drink another. You’ve reached the pinnacle. A healthy blend of traditional British malts give this popular style a semi-sweet, biscuity, slightly roasted flavor. Oats thicken the mouthfeel, and a handful of specialty malts add complex chocolate, toffee, and caramel notes. The hops are mostly traditional, earthy British hops, but we cocked it up a bit with some Cascade late in the boil just to show those snooty Brits that we don’t approve of that Constitutional Monarchy crap.

Pour is a very dark brown with a huge tan head. Aroma is a mix chocolate malt with a bit of leather and hops. Flavor is a thick chocolate malt with some earthy dirt and a nice roast to round things out. Pretty solid brown ale here. This is not you average thin brown ale. A big heavy and thick malty mouthfeel with a decent chocolate and roasted flavor.

16 oz. can purchased at 7-11, Kittery, ME. Well the artwork on this can is interesting. Maybe this is funny but really early adolescent humor. Or maybe I don’t have a sense of humor… Call me crazy but while I’m drinking a brown ale the last thing I want to think about is somebody shitting their pants. Anyways on to the review. Aroma is caramel with chocolate with underlying nutty hints.
The flavor is bold for a brown ale and certainly well crafted. Similar flavors as the nose; caramel, toasted nuts and some sugar. Funny thing is I can’t stop thinking about the out of shape cartoon image with the brown stain in his underwear while I’m drinking this. Overall a good beer with terrible marketing.

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a subtle crisp looking brown colored body with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated that dissipated within less than a minute. Lacing moderately stuck slyly around the glass in a messy sort of way.
The smell started off with subtle coffee tones rolling into a nice sweet grassy richness. A decent amount of dark chocolate rolls into balance nicely.
The taste was a nice sweet to roasty subtle milky chocolate to bitter coffee just rolling into each other. There isn’t any aftertaste but it does have a quick semi-dry finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs nice - wants to hit but slyly moves over my tongue nicely.
Overall, as an American Brown ale, it definitely works. I’d say its real nice.

Keg at Proletariat - NYC. Pours brown with a foamy, off-white head. A pretty basic brown ale. Moderately sweet with lightly toasted bread, toasty sugars, caramel. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Toasted brown bread in the finish, further caramel, faint earthy hops. OK.
