Hardywood Rum Pumpkin combines the nostalgic flavors and aromas of autumn with a soul warming, blackstrap molasses laced finish that can only be achieved through months of maturation in Caribbean dark rum barrels. Pleasantly mellow up front with a crescendo of pumpkin pie spice giving way to subtly sweet, lingering brown sugar and spiced rum notes, this beer might just bring new meaning to Thanksgiving.

Super clear and incredibly nice peach and orange tinted amber and copper coloured body with a thinnish, two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of super pungent rum, barrels, oak, alcohol, astringent bitterness, a touch of light spices and a hint of malts, but oh yeah, a ton of alcohol, especially the rum and even some tequila. Medium to Full-bodied; Slightly cloying maltiness with some earth around and a deep spice bite with squash still noticeable, but the alcohol overwhelms at the end, shows a lot of rum and leaves quite pungent throughout. Aftertaste shows the pungency with malt and spice picked up at first which is nice, showcasing the allspice, canella and squash, but then fading to the very boozey flavour of rum and oak barrels, which hits hard, especially at the end. Overall, a quite strong and pungent beers, complete with the squash, malty and spice qualities that you'd expect from the pumpkins, but also with the added rum, and in a very big way, barrel and boozey qualities, that you sign up for once purchasing the beer. If you like rum (which you probably do when buying this beer), you should probably go out of your way to try to find this beer, but for those who deal with and tolerate rum and pungency, this is simply a good beer that any knowledgeable beer drinker could agree that they did a good job making this beer. I sampled this 75 cL caged and corked bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 04-December-2017 for US$11,99 sampled two days later after a hockey game in Arlington, Virginia - Thanks Alex!

I like rum, I hate pumpkin and I generally don’t like barrels, so this is what it is. Pours hazy golden with ok head and lacing. Some cinnamon, some coriander. Rum’s pretty well hidden here, only a touch of barrel. Bottle shared at tasting.

Draft. Bright hazy burnt umber color, goes well with fall, except that it’s 75 degrees today. Aroma of vanilla, mixed pie spice, some booze. Taste has tannins, spice, burnt butterscotch. Tastier than I expected.

750 mL bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Clear orange, large fizzy off-white head, good retention. Aroma of rum, pumpkin, toasted malt, mild spice. The taste is pumpkin, dark fruit, rum, citrus, mild toastiness. Medium bodied, fairly smooth.

4 oz pour on draft at Spacebar. Clear golden amber with off-white head. Aromas of pumpkin, rum, spices. Tastes of light pumpkin, spices, rum, caramel, light saisony notes. Medium body with a dry finish. Saison base takes a backseat in this.

750 ml bottle shared by Willrunforbeer. 2013 vintage. A pumpkin beer worth a damn?? Could it be? Amber/ brown color, thin lasting head. Aroma start with light oak and turns into a lightly spiced rum. The pumpkin spice and rum barrel kind of runs together.
Very mild amount of gourd with the spices of rum showing instead of an overly spice fall seasoning. The oak shows a strong character in the finish. The alcohol is pretty well hidden and no signs of oxidation. I’m actually surprised how well this held up for a two year old beer. Impressive.
