Invidia is jaloersheid.

Bottle from the LCBO in Toronto. Nose is booze, sweet malt and strong chocolate. Taste is notable boozy notes, syrup sweetness with strong chocolate over toasty malts. Lingers with a lingering bitterness on the finish. Decent quad, a little syrupy however.

330ml bottle that pours a dark brown colour with ruby highlights, a mocha-coloured head, decent stay and some foamy lacing spots. Chocolate malt aromas with some banana-wheat notes, alcohol and hints of nuttiness, with the Belgian yeast. Cacao-nuttiness continues into the flavours with some grassy-hoppy dryness in the finish. The Belgian yeast and mild bananas lingers on the tongue. The alcohol is milder in the mouth. An interesting Belgian, Imperial Stout with lots of chocolate notes.

Bottle 33cl. bought November 2021 @home poured into a chalice. Pitch black with faint ruby hue, good dense creamy tan head, good retention, good lacing. Aroma roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, dark fruit, liquorice, faint vanilla notes. Complex layered taste, initially light light heavy sweet followed by some bitterness and a light sourish touch, malt, roast, dark chocolate, dark fruit, cherries, brown sugar, light vinous notes. Full-bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, sweetbitter aftertaste with growing fruitiness in it, rich and easy to drink, well-balanced, very good.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours almost black with a faint reddish hue and a medium sized thick creamy beige head. Rich aromas of dark chocolate, dry dark fruits, fruit cake, brown bread and hints of vanilla and liquorice. Taste has lots more dark chocolate, dry dark fruits, fruit cake and brown bread with beautiful notes of plums and lots of cherries also coming through with a touch of brown sugar on the finish. Very light vinous notes also with a subtle acidity also on the finish. Full body, fairly low carbonation and smooth oily mouthfeel. Very dark fruity lingering aftertaste. The high abv is expertly hidden. This beer is absolutely beautiful! Truly one to sip and savour. No lie this is one of the best beers I’ve ever tried. Fantastic.

On tap at the Brugge Beer Festival 2023, Brugge, Belgium. A dark brown/black coloured pour with a healthy beige head on top. Roasty, malty, caramel, dark fruit taste/aroma. There is a hint of chocolate too. Really nice strong Belgian.

I’ve got a 33 cl bottle of Invidia that Belgian Happiness sent along a few months ago. We’re having a superb fall evening, time to sample a dark Belgian ale. The look in my snifter is a brown-black liquid with a light tan skim that refuses to leave. The scent is appropriately good with dark fruit, red cherries and bread. The drink is, well, it’s good also. Black plums, chocolate surprisingly, grain, malt, leather, cherries again and some earthiness. A touch of sourness that is more than offset by a fruit sweetness. A fine beer, glad to have it to taste.
