Imperial stout inspired by Mexican hot chocolate

Collaborators: Chris Banker, Winner, Stone Homebrew Competition / Iván Morales, Brewmaster, Cervecería Insurgente / Mitch Steele, Brewmaster, Stone Brewing Co.

This is a beloved stout. When first introduced as a limited special collaboration release with San Diego homebrewer Chris Banker (after his recipe won our annual homebrew competition) and Cerveceria Insurgente, it was an instant hit and fans began clamoring for its return. Seeing as how its amazing flavor profile is evocative of Mexican hot chocolate, featuring coffee, pasilla peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and a generous amount of chocolate, we concluded it was the perfect stout to re-release in celebration of the Holidays and the entire winter season. This is now a highly anticipated yearly tradition that we are pleased to present from us to you, and makes a perfect wintry gift from you to your friends, loved ones, or simply to yourself. Cheers!

When we first brewed this beer in 2014, everyone on the brewing team was blown away by its multiple layers of flavor. The inspiration came from Mexican hot chocolate combined with coffee. We loved how wonderfully this beer showcases the spices, cocoa and subtle coffee roast flavors, so much that Stone is excited to bring it back as an annual special release.

From a 355ml can on 12/12/2018. Pours a deep dark brown with a small head. The nose is unusual and features coffee and nutmeg. The flavours are numerous - milk chocolate, coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, bay leaf, herbs, and some lingering roasty malt, with a light peppery finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. There's a lot going on here, and it's certainly very different, but also it's a bit odd and lacking in cohesion for mine. Glad I tried it but would not revisit.

Light brown fluffy head left a collar on a very dark brown still body. Coffee, malt & dark fruits aroma. Medium bodied, super smooth with a soft feel & clean aft. Coffee, demerara, herbs, malt & spices with peppery, slight citrus finish.

On tap at Euston Tap. Five pounds a half pint this had better be good. Black beer lasting tan head. Coconut aroma. Smooth chocolate in the flavour. Deep rich dark chocolate. Oh man that's good its like having a drug. Everything is OK now. Coconut and chilli aroma. Light chilli in mouth builds to a slight heat finish. The chocolate chilli coconut is pretty heady. I mean I love it. I want to take it home and give it babies. Worth a fiver? Shit yeah.

, a spiciness, like habanero almost seems to come through quite strongly, make it a bit tough on the palate, but still good. Biererie berlin. Second try in bier bar hamburg. Same rating. dry and clean, but not spicy. (3.6 nov 2019) Beerwulf 2020 adventkal can. I’m getting substantially more spice. Very good beer. (Jan 2021 3.8) Can at Cafe thijssen amsterdam.spicy but super dry and 1.5 years old. A bit aged

Canned October 1st.

A great looking beer, black with a good head of foam and lacing is impressive.

Coffee, hot chocolate slash cocoa smell. Little bit of pepper heat pumping through my nose buds.

Hot chocolate taste, light coffee bitterness, roasty, smidgeon of the pepper..could use a little more of that though it does linger after the swallow.
Not really bitter or sweet; balanced well.

Good mouthfeel with proper balance between carbonation and body.

The more I sip the more I like. Well crafted.
