A rich dark amber beer with full-flavored, smooth taste nicely accented with satisfying notes of roasted malt and subtle bottom fermenting yeast tones.

Dark brown in colour with a thin white head. Fragrant cherry/cranberry aroma with a perfect amount of maltiness. Light-bodied; Mild flavour, a bit of sweetness in the taste. Aftertaste mild as well, not showing much character. Overall, smells and looks much better than it actually is! I had this pint on draught at the Old Toad in Rochester, New York on 20-October-2003.

Chestnut brown; light nutty caramel aroma; nutty palate, good soft malt character. Sweetish, touch sugary...simple, relatively light but enjoyable.

One night after plenty of beer pong involving a keg of labatt blue light and a 30 of keystone ice, after they ran out, we switched to the warsteiner mini keg. Well it was better than the other beers thats for sure, and tasted great when i was wasted. A nice mix of malt and hops from what i can remember and not even too sweet. ill have to try again soon and rerate. RERATE. Tried again. pleasant golden-brown beer. It is a tad sugary, but still a lot less mild than I expected and dosent kill you with cheap malty taste.

Rerate 10/06/03: Tried the draught version, and I'm not sure what I was talking about earlier. Light flavor, light body? Who knows. Dark reddish-brown with a thin beige head. The aroma is lightly nutty. It is light-bodied for a Dunkel, with notes of coffee and nuts. The finish is crisp which makes this a decent session beer overall. However it lacks any real character or complexity. 02/16/02 (3.4): Deceptively smooth-textured considering how dark it is. Since it is so light I would definitely choose over the Premium Verum. If it is going to be light it might as well taste good, and this one does. The aroma stood out a little more than the flavor, which I found to be very straight-forward.

Even though I don't rate to style, strange beers like this give me pause. In a blind tasting I would never guess this was a dunkel nor do I think I could distinguish this from the same brewer's pale lager/pilsner. Thus, I pause to worry whether they used dark malts at all in the brewing of this. For me not even a hint of caramelized melanoidiny flavors. Is it just caramel color added? On its own merits, a mediocre beer. Light somewhat adjuncty malts, a fizz of grassy hops near the finish, which is thin and near empty. Forget it.
