330ml bottle. Pours black, moderate deep tan head. Aroma is markedly sweet with marshmallows, sugary candy, cognac. Taste continues with an unusal sweetness that checks off marshmallows, marzipan, caramel, chocolate, vanilla icing and lots of other stuff I can’t quite describe. The barrel-aging is there but seems to add unusual sweet hints to the decadent chocolate & caramel desert base. Huge huge complex bright flavours here, which in turn makes it a little sweet, cloying and difficult to finish. It’s a fascinating beer for sure, but not sure I’d want to revisit.

On tap at CBC 2016, yellow session. Pours black with lasting dense brown head. Chocolate, pecan nuts aroma. Roasted malts, lots of chocolate, huge on pecan nuts, vanilla, cocoa, biscuits, cake, a whisky note, bit peated. Lots of sweetness. Full bodied. Smooth finish. So complex, intense, rich. I’m big fan of pecan nuts so may not be objective. Trying to find a flaw, but why bother?

Bottle thanks to Ben! Pours inky black, medium brown head, good lacing. Aroma is full of rich mocha, cinnamon, ashtrays. Flavor is interesting, up front peaty smoke, cinnamon, nutty, mocha, ashtray. Medium sweet, light plus bitter. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. This is an odd one. I am not really sure how I feel about it...

Shared BOTTLE 33 CL. Pitch black and oily, dark beige head. The aroma is full on chocolate cake and pretty much it - suspiciously strong, does not seem artificial. Oily nuttiness, pleasant though. Taste: Huh, it is not sweet! Very chocolaty, but not the sweet chocolate desert. A light tart/tannic woody edge and strong oily nutty finish. Some grassy bitterness in the end. And not much barrel. Yeah, a different kind of impy. And interesting.

Bottle. Beer Stop, Dronfield. Not far off black. Thin, dense, lasting, light brown head. Nose has ripe raspberry. Coconut. Dark, fruity chocolate. It’s like a melted Raspberry Ruffle. Don’t get much in the way of barrel ageing, really. In fact, it’s no way like the base beer. Taste is rich, boozy sweet, with lots of red fruit, tangy bitterness. Smooth, rich mouthfeel. Doesn’t feel the ABV. Long, fruity, tangy bitter finish. Smells great, and is easy drinking, but it comes over fairly disjointed overall.

Bottle thanks to Robert. Pours a jet black color with a small brown head. A big sugary nose, woody, nutty. An odd one; super sweet, nutty earthy pecans, scotch whiskey, smoke. Very hot and very sweet. Interesting brew.

Bottle shared by skortila, medium sample. Dark color, medium fluorescent brown head. Aroma of loads of caramel fudge, marshmallow, nut (pecan I guess :-)), some roast, coffee and dark chocolate, slight vanilla, hopjesvla. I expected a big sweet marshmallow taste as well, but there’s not much sweetness actually in taste. More roasty and coffee bitterness, together with some fruity notes from the cognac barrel. Finish shows more of the bowmore, with a dry and bit peaty note. I would have loved to see more sweetness in taste to complement the aroma, which was simply astonishing. Nonetheless, did live up to the hype.

Bottle shared @ Beer Temple with Zlotta & Markoijelena, thanks Jan! Black color. Shirt beige head. Aroma’s: sweet, vanilla, hopjesvla, along with fruits, fruity booze, alcohol and roast retronasal. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate bitter, with some fruity sourness. Fairly strong alcohol feel. Medium bodied. Finish is roasted, ashy, bitter. I can’t be as enthusiastic as most people, but it’s a nice beer anyway.
