Saison Brewed with Brewery Ommegang from Cooperstown, New York

Collaboration No. 4 - Saison celebrates our partnership with Duvel Moortgat and our mutual respect for the brewers of Ommegang. A base of pale malt, corn, oats, rye and wheat is spiced with coriander, orange and lemon peel, and grains of paradise. The resulting wort is fermented separately with the house Belgian yeast of each brewery to allow the character of each yeast to shine. The final beers were blended before packaging.

750 c&c from Craft Beer Kings. Pours translucent orange gold with a large creamy off-white head. Aroma is floral, citrus, spice, and some earth. With all the carbonation it seems full bodied. Spice could be pink peppercorns or similar. It’s really pretty earthy, and the floral seems accompanied by non-citrus fruits, tho citrus seems present. Lots of seeming here. This is fairly complex stuff, and it’s pretty tasty.

Location: Draft at Max's, 11/3/14

Aroma: The nose is on-style with some Belgian yeast, spice/pepper, and light funk
Appearance: Off the tap it is golden-orange, with a haze to it, a tan head, and some light lace
Flavor: The taste is yeast and spice, with a bit of sweetness, fruit, caramel, and a spiced finish
Palate: The body is medium, with a lively carbonation, and a spicy, somewhat dry finish
Overall Impression: I thought this was a solid Saison. As I started it, I had the score higher than this, but this was one of those beers where the more I drank my score decreased. Still, pretty good.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark orangey brown with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out Belgian yeast and various spices. Flavour is well-balanced, with moderate spices, prominent Belgian yeast, and a dry crispness on the end. Well-balanced, dry and spicy. Nothing crazy, but nice and drinkable.

750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased at Lancaster Liquors in Leawood, Kansas. Best By 05 2015 marked on the label. The pour is a mostly clear golden with a 1 inch foamy off white head. The aroma is big yeast, floral along with some banana and lingering clove and mineral. The taste is the big yeast of the nose, clove, banana and some wheat malt grain and a bit of lemon citrus in the back. The story here is the Belgian Saison yeast character. The palate is medium to full bodied, bottle conditioned unfiltered mouth feel with a soft natural carbonation and more of the yeast lingering with a clove finish.
