This beer has a mild aroma of caramel and grainy malt. The sweet flavor is similar with some light hops bitterness. Pretty bland. It’s better than the pale lager though it’s still just mediocre.

Look, I really like trader joe's for beer. The cheap price makes it easy for anybody to rate beers. This beer I have high hopes for. Got it a few weeks ago while visiting NC. It looks really good in my mug. Nice and dark with a great head. Has a decent malty nose on the olfactory. I think I paid about 70 cents for this bottle and it don't even have a twist off top? Come on, that is a sign of good beer, no? This stuff is pretty good, it almost meets the direction of yuegie's black and tan but never quite gets there. However, I definitely say its is a good example of american dark lager and I'm liking it. It also has a refreshing feel of co2, tah boot. At less than half the price of Yuengling black and tan or porter, it's really good stuff. Smooth dark american lager is something you can drink a few of without any ill effects. If I lived where I could get this, I would buy it all the time. Big thanks trader joe.

Imported from Mexico? Did California relocate? 12 oz. bottle from Trader Joe's. Pours a clear dark ruby color with a beige head and good retention. Decent lacing. Dark caramel malt aroma. The flavor follows the nose. Medium dark malt and caramel malt flavors mixed together with a hint of smoke in the finish. A little sweet. Medium body and medium carbonation. Not bitter. A simple dark lager. Good for the price.

Bottle from Trader Joe's Bedford. Brilliantly clear deep mahogany with garnet hues and a small off white head that dissipates rather quickly. Caramel and a hint of chocolate pretty clean light ash.

Bottle pour into nonic pint glass from TJ's. Appearance is clear red-orange with trace sparkle, finger-width fizzy beige head with poor retention and minimal leggy lacing. Aroma is brown sugar, caramel, spice. Taste is mild toffee, spice. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin texture, average-to-lively carbonation and sweet finish. Overall, mildly sweet with a light spiciness I can't quite place (for interest).

23rd Dec 2017, 12 oz bottle into a large Leffe chalice. Red hue to the brown/mahogany body, fast fading off-white head. As soon as I had a sniff and taste I remembered why I do not like Mexican dark Lager. However, to be fair this is a lot better than most, once you get into it. Malty molasses rule to nose and taste, with very little hop action for balance. Went well with a hand full of salted Pretzel sticks. Considering the price, this is fine.

Bottle. I think you known from where. Pours clear brown with an inch of beige head. Aroma is a little strange: you have your caramel and whatnot, but there’s this sweet cola scent as well that overpowers everything else. Flavor is caramel, a hint of roasted nuts, minor dark fruits. It’s actually quite smooth and nowhere near deserving of the "21 overall" that it currently holds.

This beer is super cleanly made. The low rating on here is bullshit, people being biased against Mexican beer. It's a solid dark. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. bottle. It pours a very dark amber red color with an off white head. The aroma is malty bready with hints of cherry, cola, nuts and hints of cocoa. Nice. The flavor is malty, lightly nutty with cola-like sweetness. More cherry in the finish. Flavorful. Seems a bit more like a dunkel. I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Would purchase again.
