Dragon's Breath is a Dark Wheat Hefeweizen, otherwise known as a Dunkelweizen. It is mild in taste, unfiltered, and moderately hopped with Hallertauer Perle hops, cold fermented eliminating any harsh aftertaste. This award winning Bavarian classic was brought to America by our German Brewmaster Jurgen.

Growler pour from Route 2, Monroe. Growler night #8. Cheers. W! Pours a dark and clean copper amber with plenty of tan foam head. Listed simply as Bayern Dunkel at the taproom, but certainly this is the beer they have pouring. Aroma has plenty of caramel and cereal malts, dark fruits, and a dent amount of wheat. Dark hefe is a nice and classic way to describe this. Plenty of wheat, touch of banana like fruit, very smooth and easy drinking brew. Nice.

Bottle. Dark brown, cloudy, thick foamy head subsides. Nutty, toasty aroma. Toasty dark malts, light sweetness, bready, yeasty. Right on target.

The bottle's notch is in between March and April. It's been a long time since I've seen a brewer use the notch system. I saw cans and bottles of their beers..make up your mind, already. Lol.

A dark hefeweizen, eh? Looks like clear dark mahogany, slightly off white head of foam, decent lacing.

Smells of cloves and bananas, the former being bolder. Light sweetness, heck, the overall smell is on the light side. At 6%abv, I thought that the smell would be bolder. I let the bottle warm up. ..

The flavours are equally as non assertive. Bummer. I don't detect any flaws, it is just bland to my taste buds. There's a little bit of roast that I get, hence the dark Hefeweizen moniker, but I still don't get the reasoning behind why the brewery chose to go there. Oh well.

The mouthfeel is just fine.

I bought the bottle as a single and I'm glad I did. I have no interest in drinking it again.

355ml bottle. Pours a hazy brown with a medium, frothy, long lasting, beige head that laces nicely. Sweet aroma of wheat malt, caramel, banana, yeast and light clove. Sweet flavour of wheat malt, caramel, light fruit, yeast and clove with a smooth, dry finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. Ok.

Great hazy brown coloured body with a thick, two centimetre tall deep tan head. Aroma of very nice yeast, bananas, malt, coriander seed, bubble gum and even more yeast - nice and fragrant throughout. Medium-bodied; Earthy malt up front with a hint of nutty and earthy wheat with a good yeast strain flavour showing some spicey complexity but the typical german feel - all with a good deeper, nuttier flavour that you’d expect from a dunkles. Aftertaste shows a good level of sweetness, some mild earth and toffee, a hint of banana and a plenty amount of yeast and spicey characteristics. Overall, a nice dunkles with a good profile and a great body. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 25-April-2013 for US$1.76 sampled at home in Washington on 09-September-2013.
