Can at Bruce’s pad, from an IP trade with a Texan guy, 12/06/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a moderate tan covering that retains well. Nose is roasty, biter grapefruit, earthy hops. Taste comprises bitter roast, tangy grapefruit, bitter hop presence, earthy notes, cocoa rub. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid enough CDA.

Can shared in LDN, thanks to CLN. Pours deep brown with a frothy, tan head. Good, deep, with rich bread, bittersweet chocolate, ripe grapefruit. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Oily hops to finish, with earthy bitterness, baking cocoa, a hard mineral edge, some ripe citrus fruits. Lingering bitter cocoa. Solid.

Can, thanks to Black IPA slayer, Colin. It pours darkest brown with a decent beige head. The nose is earthy, toasty, roast, pine, cocoa and candied orange peel. The taste is crisp, bitter, earth, candied peel, creamy aspect, warming alcohol pine, orange peel and sherbet. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Rather nice.

Tangerine, grapefruit, cocoa nose. Cola brown, thin tan head. Soil, cocoa, grapefruit nose. A bit cloying toward the end. One of the better citrusy IDAs.

Can. Pours with a near black body and a khaki head of foam. Aromas are of chocolate, toffee, nutty, caramel, mild fruit, floral, green papaya, very mild grassy hop character. Mild esters. Flavors show light papaya, roasty, mild ashy, malt. A bit too much sweet malt character for my liking in any sort of IPA-based style. Bready-toasty undertones. Mild underripe tropical fruit. Fuller body, relatively well hidden alcohol. Medium carbonation. Not bad.

Sample at Kurtkeller 010: Inventory Reduction-tastic 01 on 04/12/2014. Brownish-black pour with a medium thick foamy beige head that diminishes gradually. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, hops and citrus. Medium to full body with flavors of roast malt, resiny hops and chocolate. The finish is roasty with a piney hops and malt aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Location: Draft at BRC, 4/1/14

Aroma: It has a roasted nose, fairly heavy hop presence, resiny, and clean
Appearance: This one has a dark brown pour, a big brown head, and some medium lace
Flavor: Flavor-wise, it is light sweet, roasty, and medium-plus bitter
Palate: It has a full body and an average carbonation
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid Black DIPA for sure, but it doesn't quite live up to what I wanted from a collaboration with Three Floyds and Surly. I'd love to try the versions those two breweries put out, because this one is just good, but not great.

On tap at Whip In. Pours a very dark brown with medium beige head that leaves spotty lacing. The aroma is floral hop, citra, and roast. Medium mouthfeel with light resin hop, chocolate, and roast finish. Very good.

Cask - Fresh squeezed grapefruit. Jet black with a rich beige head. Big grapefruit with a bit do roasted malt. Big on the palate and just a touch of booze. Nice.
