The English know a thing or two about pale ale. West Coasters know a thing or two about having a good time. Naturally, we kept these facts in mind when we perfected the recipe for English Bay Pale Ale. Tradition is served in the smooth, mild flavour and caramel malt aroma, and that distinctive West Coast character comes through thanks to natural carbonation and careful maturing. The result? A real pale ale with will rise to any occasion.

Bright copper color, thin creamy head. There is some caramel, but no character, dry mouthfeel, common bitterness, very light breadish touch, it doesn’t even seem an Ale; weak final. And very boring.

Dark amber with minimum head. Smells kind of sweet and caramelly. Tastes like pretty sweet and all... eh. Frankly, don’t think that this is an english pale ale at all. Misnomer mebbe. I mean it wasn’t too bad, but I think that it was just too sweet for a PA. I didn’t really like it overall though. But maybe that was because it cost an obscene amount of money at the function that I was attending.

Bottle from BC Liquor store. Amber, thin white head. Odd bit of stale malt on aroma. Bit of diacetyl or caramel. Not huge hop. Some presene towards the end for the hop. Not much of a pale ale profile. 2.4/5 On tap at Granville Island Brewery. Copper, thin off white head. I don’t care for th e butter/caramel on this. Crisp hop finish is reminiscent of the lager. Bit of stale malt aroma. Nothing muchin the mouth, some malt, some caramel. Undistinguished pale ale.

Draught at the brewpub. Clear bronze colour. Liht papery malt aroma. Sweetish with light body, lightly toasty. A laid back beer with low hop rate and bitterness. Just too anonymuos.

Reddish amber ale wiuth quickly dissipating white head. Sweet caramel and boiled vegetables. In mouth, caramel malt with faint sharp hops, not floral and rather short in mouth. Medium bodied. Bottle from JM.

Amber colour. Vague caramel aroma. Very sweet. Vaguely caramelly, but nothing else. No hop, no yeast, no roasty malts, no clean bready pale ones either. The can says they’ve perfected the recipe - my ass they have. This is a triumph in gibberish.

Aroma nonexistent. Golden Brown, low creamy head. Malt and corn mouth rounded of by stale hops. Ok mouthfeel. Quite dissappointing after a few day in hoppy SF.

This is by far the better of the 2 widely available pale ales in the area...
