Enjoyed while at dinner with co-workers at Gordon Biersch in Las Vegas, NV. Aroma slight malt and a hint of chocolate. Appearance dark brown with a light head. Taste somewhat carbonated, slight chocolate taste, mostly malty, decent stuff, average Schwarzbier.

A dark clear mahoganny brown bock with a thin off white head. A pleasant smokey malt aroma, quite smooth light chocolate. In mouth, a nice lightly peaty chocolate, very restrained, but overall, pleasant. On tap at GB Cleveland airport, Sept. 6 2010.

On tap at Gordons in Columbus. The body is a little wattery. The taste is roasty, coffee, with a hint of smoke and a light bitter aftertaste. The taste is a little heavy for a schwarzbier (not much of a session beer) maybe a little closer to a porter.

500 ml draft at the downtown Kansas City location. Pour is clear ruby brown and black, with an ever so slight haze. One inch off white head falls fast. Decent lacing. Aroma of nutty roasty malt, some mild sweetness, light diacetyl. Taste is dusty and dirty roast nut malt, bright earth hop. Palate is thin, medium carbonation. Drinkable, though watery enough to dilute malt character. Just OK.

On tap at the Pizza Port Session Ale Fest. Pours with a hazy deep brown body and a generous khaki head. Aroma of leather, cocoa, and coffee. Taste is light coffee, leather, earthy malts, and a bit lactic. Light bubbles, dry mouthfeel.

Sampled on draft at the Virginia Beach location. Pours a clear dark copper/red color with a large head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is caramel, light roast and nuts. Taste is very nutty with caramel, light roasted malts, light smoke. Smooth but thin bodied.

Sampler @ Bolingbrook. Deep brown color, but not too hard to see through. A thin layer of foam. Some roastiness in the smell; not to style but okay by me. Then, there’s more stout in the taste than I’m used to. I’ve always thought of schwarzes as having a dry finish and must less astringency that a typically over-roasted stout. This is redeemed by a nice clean lager finish, but this still pales next to other locally made schwarzbiers I’ve known.

Location: We have a bunch of these in the metro DC area, I think I've prob been to 3 of them, including the one in "Downtown Rockville" that I visit pretty often, I've had this one on tap there
Overall Impression: It's an interesting beer to me, depends on my mood how much I like this one. It is successful at being a Schwartz, but it's pretty thin even for the style, some decent flavors sometimes, but sometimes it strikes me as a bore...We'll split the difference here.

Had more than a few pints of this at a recent dinner at the DC location. Looks like a stout, opaque black, soft white head. Aroma of toast, nuts, some dark fruits. Flavor was malty, nutty, toast, breads. Crisp, clean finish. Good session beer.
