An unclear amber beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel, and hints of wheat. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, wood, and fruit.

Bottle: Poured a medium black color ale with a nice foamy off-white head with standard retention. Aroma of roasted malt is kind of weak and I could not find anything else really. Taste is also a bit thin with some roasted malt and not much else going on. As mentioned, body is thin and carbonation is low I’ve had much better beer form that style to truly care about that one.

2004 bottle, a bit of age behind it. Dark mahogany-ruby-brown. Big, yellow-tan head, quite lasting. Sediment in the bottom of the bottle, unpasteurised as well. Looking at my notes, this beer was quite the wild ride. It begins with a floral hops aroma, with some light mocha in the background. Light roast, anise and a strong black malt influence, or deeply kilned chocolate malt, that might be a bit too overdone. Flavor begins with lovely roasted pork, coffee, smoke, floral/minty hops. Mint sauce with lamb, toasted almonds and bitterness to finish. It seems to be going wonderfully, but then the notes take a turn and suggest that it has too bitter, earthy hops, rooty bitterness, celery stalks, ginger-like spiciness. Hops take over as it warms.

Draught at Brewtopia ’04 Clear, deep mahogany color. Good lacing. Malty with a slightly smoky aroma. Over this has a malty profile with a slightly bitter hop finish. Not a bad beer, but not up to an English Strong Ale IMO.

Deep brown beer with a slight moka head. Nuts and malts aroma with roasted malts in mouth, with some nuts and molassess. Good body. A pleasant beer (DRAFT) 26/04/04-Bottled-Deep brown ale with a pleasant nose of caramel and malt, sweet maltsm, with nutella comes out, slightly woody, with juist a nice touch of hops in the end, medium bodied. Still a nice beer. Brewed in Ol' Plattsburg.

Dark amber colour with a thin white head. The aroma was pretty fragrant and pretty malty. The aftertaste was potent and lasted quite a long time. I sampled the Lake Placid 46'er IPA and hated it, but figured I'd give this a tasting (blind--not from a review), and it turns out I was pretty impressed by Lake Placid this time around. Try this beer and not the 46'er IPA. I tasted this on tap at MacGregor's in Rochester, New York.

Aroma is roasty and lightly fruity - tiny bit of lacing - a well-hopped English Strong - tiny bit of spice - a bit lacing in body and complexity - this seems very similar to their 46er IPA, the only real difference is the roasty quality to the flavor and aroma and the slightly higher maltiness.
