A brewhouse favourite, this beer was brewed for the first time in our tiny pilot premises in Stoke Newington, hence the name. Brown ale is making a welcome comeback and this is our take on the style. A juicy but light malt backbone gives plenty of support to the generous hops. We love drinking this one.

Bottle. Hazy dark amber/brown with small tan head. Aroma is malt, caramel, hop, little toasted, citrus and grapefruit. Flavour is malt, caramel, little nutty, little sweet, hop, medium bitter, grapefruit and pine.

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Hazy dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, roasted malt and moderate hoppy - pine. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and roasted moderate bitter finish. 280613

Bottle @ fonefan tasting. Nice creamy head with excellent duration. Color is brown. Aroma and taste are rich nuts, caramel, malt, fruits and hops.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail
Bottled 29.01.13, BBE 29.06.13 - Pours dark brown with a large foamy head. Aroma of chocolate malts, hints of roastiness, berries, ripe fruits, coffee and nuts. Taste is smooth, fruity and nutty with hints of caramel, chocolate, coffee and toffee. Finish is carbonated, sweetish, caramely and nutty with notes of chocolate, toffee, berries and ripe fruits. Almost tastes like a candy in a liquid form. Not your typical brown ale, but still quite good.

330ml bottle. Dark brown colour with huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Herbal hop aroma, notes of spruce, a nuttily touch in the background, hints of green wood. Taste is initially herbal hoppy, some spruce, later malty with a backgroundish nuttily touch, slightly minerally; prickling carbonation. Sadly the carbonation takes away portions of taste from the tongue.

Bottle from Sourced Market, St Pancras. It pours very dark brown with a thick beige head. The nose is fresh pine, earth, light brown sugar and chocolate covered coffee beans. The taste is pine, light toast, caramel, burnt brown sugar, cocoa, earth, varnish and good level of bitterness with a lingering dry-bitter finish. Medium body, moderate carbonation and velvety mouth-feel. Really well-balanced and very drinkable. Very well done.

Cask at Euston Tap, London on 5th April 2013. Thickly brown with thin tan ring and acing bands. Richly malty aroma. Lemony citric hops and roasted malts in-mouth, with touch of smoke.Roasty malts abound in finish which also has a delcate background bitterness. Smooth yet engaging mouthfeel and medium body.

Bottle at home London - picked up at Sourced. Pours clearish, deep brown with a moderate, creamy beige cap. Quite a lot of burnt pine in the nose, a bit of chocolate, toasty bread. Medium sweet flavor with sturdy burnt pine bitterness, earth, baking cocoa, burnt sugars. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Modest piney resins to finish, burnt toast, earth and grass, strong roast. Very solid stuff overall. The best thing I’ve had from this brewery.

33cl bottle from Sourced Market, St Pancras station. Very dark brown almost black beer with a lasting dark beige head. American brown style aroma. quite attractive though. Good deep malts in the mouth. Yes enormously drinkable I would say. Good solid brown beer with good malts and decent hops on finish. Excellent, very well balanced. Enjoyable.
