Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Wow, a 37.5 cl bottle, I was impressed with these guys already and I like them even more now. Aroma is roasted malt, lots of coffee, nuts, mocha and espresso, touch of milk chocolate and a faint hint of dark fruits. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and moderate roasty bitter. Body is above medium with way too heavy carbonation, very annoying. Too bad about the insane carbonation that gets in the way, because this is a very decent Imperial Coffee Porter.

Bottle at home from DeBierkonig, Amsterdam, 25th May 19. Pours a black beer. Aroma is caramel, liquorice, chocolate, taste is caramel, bitter coffee and cocoa, well infused, light almonds in the finish. Yes its slighlty over carbonated, but get over it and swill the glass, great porter.

Bottle split at L42, from a trade with many thanks to Dutch Drebus, 13/02/18. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a well presented beige covering. Nose is big on coffee grinds, Nutella. black peppery spice, roast malts. Taste comprises toffee cocoa powder, charr, roasted bite, coffee beans, mellow spice. Medium plus bodied, prickly and overcarbonated, drying close. Decent enough impy affair but the carbonation lets this one down.

Bottle shared in London - thanks to Cloin. Pours oily black with a creamy, beige head. The nose holds coffee, burnt toast, baking cocoa. Medium sweet flavour with some leathery berries, ashy roast, more baking cocoa. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Warming finish with some espresso, charred meat, burnt toffee, ash, leather. Not bad.

Thanks to Cloin. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Very airy palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Soft fluffy dark brown, some dark malts, little cream. Tangy dark chocolate. Powderey dark chocolate. Modest dark fruits. Airy finish. Not bad.

Bottle at L42 - thanks to Colin. It pours cloudy murky dark brown with a thick tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, tar, burnt toast, toasted almond biscotti, almond milk, coffee grounds and cocoa. The taste is dry, bitter, raw, tar, charred wood, cherry, toasted nut, vanilla, coffee cake, bit of spice, warming alcohol and burnt toast with a drying finish. Medium - full body and moderate carbonation. Carboantion is a bit hardcore for me. Overtakes the base beer.

Sampled from 0.375 l bottle from ’De Bierkoning’, best before October 2020. Gusher! Pitch black with a massive, fluffy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, moderately roasty aroma of dark chocolate, coffee and some licorice. Quite sweet, malty, slightly roasty taste of dark chocolate, coffee, some licorice and maybe hints of almond, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter, a bit earthy-dry finish. Medium to full body, creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very tasty!
